We hadn't been to the Royal Starr for about 7 years so we were hoping it was just as nice as before and we weren't disappointed! Ernie and Linda are very friendly. The cabins are some of the cleanest and nicest we have stayed in. We had cabin number 1 and the rest of the family stayed in 12. Both were nice although cabin 12 was newer and s bit nicer than 1. As I mentioned so very clean and I'm not much of a camper so this was important to me! The cabins are decorated very cute! They had everything we needed in terms of dishes etc. Canin 1 had a much better view of the lake and we even watched a bald eagle catch a fish while we were eating breakfast in the cabin. Linda gave us a hummingbird feeder to hang at our cabin and they were plentiful! It was just the 2nd week they had been open so they were still getting things out like the water trampoline but the water was a bit too cold to swim although the teens with us did get in one day to try out the trampoline. There are paddle boats and a nice beach area. The lake is simply beautiful I could watch the sunrise there everyday. They do have boats to rent but we had our own and spent a lot of time in it. It was very quiet at the resort. They had popcorn in the lodge every day around 3. We watched turtles lay eggs and a bear was even spotted up by where you leave your boats trailers which is up at the top of the hill from the resort so not close to the cabins! The one thing we missed from our last stay and perhaps because we were there early or because when we were there, aside from two other teenagers our teens were the only children there was the minnow races and the bonfire they used to have. But this did not take away from the nice relaxing time we did have. The Mosquitos must have heard our prayers to be kind because they were. We had a campfire almost every night and they didn't join us. We did experience two days of these caterpillar like worms that were crawling all over and all over the outside of the cabins but we were in the great outdoors! We did hearvthatvthe resort is for sale so I hope the new owners keep it just as nice as the current so we can...
Read moreAs of 2018, there is a lot of new stuff and it's clear the owners care about the employees. Most of the pricing is very fair and they seem committed to making this place better every year! They have built in AC in several cabins which you can rent for a reasonable fee which is better than the old model the prior owners had (not that they were bad, they were just getting older and not able to do the extra work as easily as younger people could) They have great business sense and the personality of the new owners are instantly gets you ready to relax! It's pretty exciting to see what will change next year and I hope they are rewarded for their efforts because they really are nice people who really seem to care about their guests which you don't always get unfortunately at resorts now a days. As far as location it's in between Nevis and Dorset which isn't that far from park rapids with plenty of things to do and once again use the owners as a concierge, they spend a good amount of time going to local places and doing the foot work for those unfamiliar...
Read moreWe've been managing to make a summer trip to the Royal Starr a family tradition since 2009! What a blessing!||Our multi-generational family group loves the Starr. Linda and Ernie are kind and thoughtful hosts. ||We now need to rent 3 cabins instead of one to accommodate our larger and older group.||The resort itself is beautifully located on the lake and there is lots to do in the surrounding area. The resort supplies canoes, sit on kayaks and paddle boats not to mention a swimming bong or the beach is simply a comfortable place to sit and relax.||The cabins are super clean and well laid out for families. The extra sinks and vanities in the bedrooms of the newer cabins make for more harmonious family time!||||Our teenage daughters sum up the spirit of time at the Starr best. They say that sometimes we go on more adventurous vacations but they always want to go back to the Starr because its the place where everyone relaxes...
