A truly special place: My husband and I brought our teenager here over spring break to reconnect with nature but still avoid crowds during covid. The details in this cabin were so special and really made us feel pampered even though we didn't speak to anyone else the whole trip. The kitchen was great and everything worked perfectly the whole time. I used the Neospresso machine for coffee the whole trip (brought a frother and enjoyed lattes every day, it was so easy), the gas stove was great and there was also a handy little toaster oven. We made s'mores by the firepit outside on two separate nights, finding firewood was fun and the owners made a cheerful path to the firepit with overhead lights. I woke up early one morning and caught the sunrise on one of the daybeds on the wraparound porch -- it was lovely and peaceful, I will remember this for a long time. My daughter and I booked a docent through the nature preserve and hiked up the ice mountain trail -- I am not super fit but I made it and the view from the top was gorgeous, and the docent was extremely knowledgeable and had lots of great stories.
My daughter really enjoyed exploring the river bank, watching movies as a family, trying out the dartboard, just vegging out on the couch, and of course the smores. She loved her room and the bathroom, which were so elegantly laid out. She would really love to come back sometime in the future with a friend or two. She thought the little bunk beds in the basement were very cozy and staked them out during the day even though she had her own room upstairs. We were here for 5 nights and would like to come back for a full week sometime maybe over the summer -- we never even managed to play pool or break out some of the outdoor games like croquet that the owners made available on the porch. I loved having a steam bath available in the master and all of the cozy touches that the owners included in this cabin -- multiple fireplaces, all of the luxurious blankets and pillows, being able to play our music through bluetooth through the cabin, the beautiful artwork and light fixtures. This was just a really special place to stay and regroup from some of life's pressures, we are so glad we found it, and we have already decided to return. Thank you so much to the owners Stephen and Mary for their fast responses to all of our questions and for designing such a beautiful place in the middle of the woods and sharing it with us! (We have already booked a return trip, ha! :)
PS: The cabin is extremely well stocked! The number of items on hand in the kitchen was very unusual. We brought a sharp knife with us and I was glad for that; next time we will also bring measuring cups though you can get by without (there was a 1/2 cup and 1/2 teaspoon and a large multi-cup glass container). We did not need to bring baking soda and powder and garlic salt, or aluminum foil or plastic wrap. The built-in wall concierge in the kitchen was also extremely helpful -- any time we had a question about the property, like how to work one of the fireplaces or the house bluetooth for music, we could just click through the menu and have an answer in a few...
Read moreMy family and I just spent a week at Mountainaire Cabin in West Virginia. What a lovely setting! The cabin location is ideal — not far from I-81 so easily accessible and at the same time remote enough to get that "I've left the world behind" feeling. "Picturesque" sounds so cliché as does “nestled” but what an amazing setting! Imagine the feeling of a little, rustic log cabin set in a green valley on the edge of a lazy river, then add in all the amenities of a luxury resort and change little to “all the room you could possibly need” and that is Mountainaire. My husband and I were happy to sit and rock in the beautiful bentwood rockers on the wrap-around screened porch but grandchildren are not. We never heard the word “bored” and nor did they ask for their tablets, not once, and no one missed or asked for TV! On the porch, there’s a bowling set, a chest with softball and badminton equipment, and a football, a croquet set (remember that?), and a corn hole set. The basement has a pool table, dart board, and a projector with a huge projection screen for streaming movies, etc., and a closet full of board games. Our television at home is always on as the guys in the family are sport fanatics. We never used the projection screen to stream anything! There was just too many other things to enjoy. There was even two adult coloring books with colored pencils which everyone enjoyed. Now that’s just the beginning. The plunge pool was obviously a big hit with the kids. Hard to keep children away from the water and the river access is just a moment’s walk. Shallow but fishing was great. My husband brought a fly rod and it was his first attempt at fly fishing. Due to the shallow water the fish were small but what fun! Now, the cabin itself — if you appreciate great design and well-appointed decor then you will love this cabin. If you need cleanliness and bathrooms that pamper, this is the place. Nothing rustic in this area. Never thought I needed a towel warming rack but now I do! So, kudos to the owners for thinking of everything. Get your fishing rod, your bathing suit, and turn off your phone and computer and find out what relaxing is all about while watching the deer graze in the field as the sun rises and sets. If you can’t find peace here,...
Read moreWe just got back from a long weekend at MountainAire Luxury Cabin and we are thoroughly impressed. Everything you could possibly need they have thought of. We traveled with 2 adults and 4 children (ages 4-12). Between the stocked game closet, sauna shower and top notch kitchen (to name a few)- everyone had something to enjoy! It was just starting to warm up so we did have a wasp issue (especially in the upstairs bedrooms and by the hot tub) but we expected that being in the woods and a cabin.. the kids had no issues bunking in basement bunk beds.
Stephen and Mary are readily available for any questions, concerns or issues that may come up. The hot top just needed to be topped off over the top jet and Stephen had answered promptly with step by step instructions on where to find a hose.
Having a dad that passed away recently and was obsessed with Johnny Cash and George Jones it really made my heart do flips when I could ask Alexa to play Johnny cash and an endless amount of his songs played... throughout the entire house! It felt like he was with us during our stay. Make sure you hike up Ice Mountain Raven Rock (my 4.5 year old was able to do this, be mindful that they are portions where extra care will be needed in watching the littles). It was worth it for the views at the top.
We enjoyed eating outside on the screened (heated) porch and playing corn hole for an endless amount of time! The location was absolutely perfect—secluded yet easily accessible, offering the perfect balance of peace and convenience. What really stood out to me was the attention to detail; every corner of the cabin was thoughtfully designed, from the cozy furnishings to the high-end finishes. It truly felt like a luxurious retreat with all the comforts of home. Whether you’re looking to relax or explore the area, this cabin offers the best of both worlds. We will...
