Beautiful scenery, informative and just an all around nice quiet place to visit. The signs they have on the history are really cool and worth taking the time to read. We downloaded(or texted I can't recall.)the app.(it's given on a couple different signs.) It was worth doing. The tunnel is worth walking thru and checking it out. It's amazing that they were able 2 build it using the man power and tools they had back then. The architecture is outstanding.Make sure u take a flashlight, wear your walking shoes and bring a light jacket if u are going in the Summer months.(it is cooler due 2 the plant life & shade.) We saw a bunch of wildlife on our walk to the tunnel. I think every inch of the toepath is beautiful. To think that donkeys use 2 pull boats down it and the amount of ppl that have walked the same path u are for 100+...

Campground was a little sketch. Well maintained, but after dark the parking lot was visited by a lot of...let’s just say people who weren’t staying in the campground. There were also random people walking around the campground looking for “something” but not actually finding it? It was bizarre. Drug addicts? Not sure. The campground also lacks many trees and the spots are in basically an open field. Also, we paid to reserve a spot, we were told only every other spot was being booked due to COVID. Either that wasn’t true or random people just show up and camp here whenever they want. Zero enforcement of camping permits which is kind of a let down when some of us pay to camp here and others don’t. I think I would only return here to camp with a large group of people since it’s such an...

Pros: Vigorous hiking trails (not for small children). Neat campgrounds with clean portopotties. Fishing available along river next to camp. Rarely crowded and there is a Dollar General close by. The well water is not suggested to drink but is okay to clean off with.

Cons: There was construction all day that started around 7:30 am everyday that we were not warned about. Once you walk the tunnel the other side is closed, the only warning signs are posted are after you walk the tunnel.

My family had a good time and we will return next year. We like there are...

The campground is a half mile from the tunnel, by way of the tow path. There is a pump with potable water and port-a-poties. The path down to the river is very steep! The campground is a big field with trees around it - not much privacy. It was very quiet with great stargazing.

It is a primitive campground that you can reserve through the NPS. This is the trail head to the Paw Paw tunnel which is a 3100' canal tunnel..It overlooks the Potomac River. Pack your own trash out. There are no trash containers at this site.
