Pat our camp host, friendly and knowable, she knew where to buy or pick up about everything we needed. Camp sites and Out-house type rest room were clean. Potable water was available for a above ground tank (Limit of 5 gal per site). Host also had small bundles of firewood. We stayed in site 4, Large trees blocking morning Sun but we did face the Afternoon and Evening. About 2.5 miles from HW 260, dirt service road wasn’t too bad on my Class C, although just as you exit 260 or enter the service road there is a unexpected and large hole (LoL). Campgrounds were very clean and the road within the campground was smooth. Black Canyon Lake is about a mile or so form the Black Canyon Campground, Lake was ok but I would bring a blowup raft or something to play in. We had our UTV and there are a lot of dirt roads to explore - great camp ground !!

It was a beautiful spot! Peaceful and fun. Close to the lake and wild horses. We had skunks visit each night, which was usually fine. We had a great time while there. Bob, our camp host, stopped by multiple time a day to make sure we had what we needed and that we were following all the campsite rules. He does a good job keeping the campground maintained. We were not permitted to cut firewood and leave it for the next guests, but it is for sale at the entrance.

Beautiful camping/hiking spot. Loved seeing the wild horses. Will definitely be back! The weather was perfect this time of year (June) it was a little windy when we were packing up to leave. It was nice that they had wood available at the camp host site we didn’t bring our own because we weren’t sure if we could have a campfire. The camp site host was super nice, attentive and helpful.

A group of 4 of us stayed here the weekend on 6/18.

We made our booking on 3/20 and arrived on 6/18, only to see about 30 people in our camping spot, #1. They refused to leave, allegedly saying the Camp Host said no one was going to be in that spot and they already paid for that spot. We went to the camp host trailers (Manny and Terry) and they were not there.

After being on the phone with recreation.gov for over an hour, and troubleshooting about 10 different phone numbers that were not in service or their office hours were not open, we temp set up on the edges of camp spot #1…until we were able to flag down Ron. He was a ranger and understood our situation but said it would be hard for him to get a big group like that moved off. He also could not prove if they actually paid for a spot since the camp hosts were gone due to a funeral. We were able to work it out on a different camp spot…

Also, never received a call back from any of the voicemails we left. We were able to work it out with Ron, he was great but what a miserable start to our weekend!

The camp spot thieves also had 3 cars and way more people than allowed. Multiple sites also had fires going which was also prohibited. The lack of rule enforcement was shocking.

This review is for the camp host on 6/17 that gave our spot away (we have the email confirmation) and if your camp hosts are out for a family emergency, have a backup available to enforce the rules of the campground so guests are not inconvenienced. This severely out a damper on our trip and we will not return or recommend...

A nice location and good sized spots, well manged, but only one bathroom for the whole campground. This is OK if you have an RV or trailer with a toilet, but it can be a VERY long walk to the bathroom depending on where your site is if you do not have your own toilet. Although the privacy is good, it's not good enough that you'd want to dig a cat-hole to relieve yourself.

On top of that, I only found out after I visited that the only water is in a tank near the entrance. I didn't see it when I was there and so assumed it was a dry camp.

This campground is surrounded by many dispersed free camping spots.

I usually camp in pay campgrounds because of the water and toilets. I don't see the point of paying to camp here unless you can get a site near the entrance where the toilet and water...
