Well, we have been "hanging our hat" at Upper Cullen for five years, and after our recent return, August 3-10, we signed up for next year. The folks in charge are friendly, accommodating, and professional. The setting is inviting and easy to settle into. If you want to swim, boat, fish, or just gaze at the sunsets, rest easy with family and friends, or be alone with your thoughts,"be our guest," that's the attitude and spirit of Matt, his family and staff. I like Upper Cullen Resort and Campground because the good folks in charge have presented all of us who have discovered this little jewel, a small piece of paradise, where mother nature is respected, and the great outdoors has not been intruded upon, but rather "sits gentle" for all of us to appreciate and glory in her magnificence and beauty. Everything inside is clean, ordered, and attractive. And if you get an urge to go into town, I recommend a short trip to nearby Nisswa. You can walk, run, jog, or bike on the Paul Bunyan Trail, enjoy some great ice cream treat at the Chocolate Ox, and later, or another day, drop in for a pizza at Rafferty's. Oh, and Main Street Ale House. So, if you wish to relax, be away from crowds and routines, be in a place where both nature and good people welcome you...You know where to go. Upper Cullen Resort and Campground. Matt and his family are...
Read moreOur family started at Upper Cullen Resort and Campground back in the late 80's. We stayed there for about 10 years, only stopping because our kids were too busy with summer activities. We re-started the tradition in 2017 for our grandkids. The family-run resort is the same as it was 35 years ago, which is PERFECT. Upper Cullen Resort and Campground has a peaceful environment on a quiet lake. Kids can catch many fish off the docks and there are great spots on the lake as well. Kids can look forward to a duck pond, multiple play areas, basketball hoop, badminton, shuffleboard, minnow races, potato sack races, ice cream socials, scavenger hunts, tractor wagon rides, and a very nice beach. There are free kid-friendly games, books, and DVDs available in the lodge. The lodge also has food, merchandise, foosball, a pool table, and multiple old-school arcade games. If you want to get out, there are a ton of things to do in nearby Nisswa and Baxter. We have a "no TV" rule for the grandkids at Upper Cullen Resort. They're so busy doing wholesome "kid's stuff" they don't miss it! This is exactly what a...
Read moreThe numerous pictures on line combined with all of the great reviews brought me to this place. I was looking for a casual true up north experience at a lake. I like the fact that the Gallas family likes to keep a respectful and quiet environment with no partyers. You never know how things are going to end up turning out if it is a resort with cabins combined with a seasonal campgrounds, however everyone that we came across was lovely. The beach is a very good size, I was looking for a clear lake and I got that also. When other Resort goers or other family members from the campground came down to the water whether it was to fish or whether it was to swim or whether it was to play in the water and watch the kids it wasn't all day. We were hoping for a wonderful relaxing experience and we got it. Some of the resorts in the area appear to have the beaches packed with people and kids all day and all night. This was not like that. There was enough interaction with the other guests which is wonderful and enough privacy where it was...
