Sea Hag Marina — Hotel in Perry

Beware, my review is long and ugly.

We rented a $249 flats boat for scallop diving last weekend from the Sea Hag. The price is painted on the side of the boat. We were charged $299. We were late getting started....got to the Sea Hag about 1pm...long drive. Our boat failed within an hour of rental and before we could reach a scallop diving spot. The radio on the boat was broken so we called in using a cell phone. They said a mechanic would come right out. About an hour later we called back and were told he couldn't find us. But, it turned out he was sitting 100 yards away talking with his buddies. He left his friends and came over and tried to fix our boat. He couldn't. So we gave us his boat After our late start, the boat failure, lost and ineffective mechanic, it was about 4:30 and we were reminded it would cost us $50 for every half hour we were late turning the boat in (after 5). So we turned around and drove back to the marina.

The Sea Hag team was unapologetic. Never mind that we had taken the day off and driven 5 hours to rent a boat that failed....immediately. After reminding us it was NOT THEIR FAULT we didn't get on the water earlier. They offered to buy the gas we used. $18.92 worth. Wow, thanks. We rent your $249 boat for $299, use it for about an hour, 30 minutes of which it was going about 7mph. We never reached a diving spot, then we are offered a $18.92 credit on our $317.92 invoice. A 6% refund on a boat that 100% FAILED. In the end, I think they gave us a 1/2 rental refund. $100 of the $299. 33% is better, but again the boat 100% failed. We did not dive for scallops. We did take the day off, drive along way, pay for 67% of a boat that wouldn't run, rent a house, etc.

My advice: rent from these folks at your own risk. Clarify the warranty/refund policy. Don't bother "appealing" the rough verdict from the front line customer service team. The owner is just as rough and doesn't care anymore than the minimum wage team.

All in all a 1 star experience. I will certainly look for options other than the Sea Hag next time we want to...

First let me say, we are here right now. We checked in yesterday the staff is extremely friendly and helpful I cannot emphasize this enough. Even when I called several times leading up to our visit, I was always handled perfectly. This is our first time here and will be the first of many.||||The location is awesome, the boat ramp is about a half a mile away, so you can launch your boat and then keep it in the marina during your stay. They have plenty of trailer parking available and plenty of parking for your vehicles in what they call a shacks.||||The shacks are exactly that, they are definitely shacks, but they are really cool and nice shacks. Ours is definitely old but it's clean and has a ton of character, we have a beautiful screened in outside deck on the front and a small deck on the rear. We also have a gas grill and they provide the gas.||||This place some place that you must visit especially if you like anything having to do with the water, access to the Gulf is fast and easy and if you don't have your own boat they will rent you one for the unbeliefly cheap price of 200 bucks a day. It's almost not worth bringing my own boat!||||I have a feeling that during scallop season it's very hard to get a reservation here so if I were you, I would jump on it and get something reserved now.||||This review may sound like it's written by somebody who owns or works at this place, but that is absolutely not the truth, we live in Jacksonville now that we found this place just a short two and a half hour drive we will be back as often as possible.||||One last thing, they have everything that you could possibly need right here and so far I think everything is very...

Took my boat to sea hag marina because the oil light came on and went into limp mode. Sea hag said they checked the compression which I was told was 120 across all and they bled the oil line telling me there was air in the oil line. The mechanic personally told me I need to take the boat out and run it everything was good to go it was just air in the line and he purged it. He said it would smoke a little but would stop. We went out of the River and and across the flats when it did the exact same thing going into limp mode which they said they fixed. I called sea hag and told the mechanic it was in limp mode and we were out in the flats, his response was that's what we did not want to hear. If I owned a business and my mechanic told a customer to go run the boat i claimed was fixed and it did the same thing I believe I would have went and towed the boat back but of course this was not offered. Still charged me 150.00 and when it was explained to them what they claimed was fixed and it did the same exact thing we were told they earned their labor Sea hag has really nice people and I will shop in the store because its the only one around. As fair as boat repair in my opinion its pretty low moral business practices, I understand they have labor fees and I had no problem paying for that but when your mechanic tells a customer to go out in the ocean and run the boat and you encounter the exact same problem they "fixed" you think there would have been a discounted rate or offer to tow you and your kids back in.
