In a nutshell: Paradise Springs by Huttopia delivers exactly what you hope for in a high‑end glamping getaway: a historic 135‑acre canyon setting, superbly outfitted canvas‑and‑wood cabins, an Olympic‑size spring‑fed pool, a lively café‑and‑games hub, and thoughtful staff‑led activities that keep both kids and adults smiling. The only real trade‑offs are a bit of uphill walking if you book the Red Rock loop and the absence of personal campfires—minor inconveniences outweighed by the site’s cleanliness, calm and charm.
Setting & First Impressions
Huttopia Paradise Springs sits at 18101 Paradise Dr., Valyermo, in the heart of the Angeles National Forest, roughly a 90‑minute drive from Los Angeles . The 135‑acre property opened in the 1920s as a retreat for Hollywood stars and still feels like an oasis amid pines and dramatic red‑rock outcrops . Marketed as a French‑style glamping resort, it offers a mix of canvas cabins and tented lodges scattered between the shaded Coulter Pine loop and the higher, more arid Red Rock loop .
Lodging Experience
Our family booked a Red Rock cabin with a private bathroom, electricity, hot shower, outdoor kitchenette and full cookware, features that match what the property lists on Expedia and travel guides . The walk from the parking area took about ten minutes, but complimentary wagons made hauling luggage—and tired toddlers—easy. Beds, linens and cookware were spotless on arrival, and the deck lighting let us linger outside after the kids went to bed.
Amenities & Activities
The Pool
The star attraction is the unheated, spring‑fed Olympic‑size pool—roughly 3 ft to 12 ft deep and about 100 ft long—so both lap swimmers and little waders are happy . Food and drinks are prohibited poolside, a policy that keeps the water crystal‑clear.
Food & Drink
Steps from the water, Café Paradis serves wood‑fired pizzas, morning croissants and crêpes, letting you travel lighter on groceries . Shaded tables overlook a playground, so parents can sip a latte while children race down the slide.
Games, Playground & Kids’ Club
Daily activities list a playground in both loops plus ping‑pong, pétanque, cornhole, foosball and board‑game lending, all free to use . Our kids never tired of the swings and rope‑ball area beside the café.
Evening S’mores & Campfire Policy
Because of California fire restrictions, personal campfires are not allowed; instead, staff light a communal fire pit for nightly s’mores, and supplies can run out on busy weekends . Bring a backup marshmallow stash if you’re arriving late.
Guided “Hike with Mike”
The mile‑long guided walk through the canyon was a highlight—Mike’s enthusiasm for the site’s history and ecology kept adults engaged and kids moving. (Personal observation)
Connectivity & Seasonality
Wi‑Fi reaches only the lodge area, and cell service is patchy—perfect for forced digital detox . Note that the whole camp typically closes in October and reopens in spring, so shoulder‑season planners should check dates .
Pro Tips for Future Guests • Book Coulter Pine if you want to be steps from the pool, café and creek—the Red Rock loop requires a half‑mile downhill (and uphill back) walk. • Pack ice and pool noodles. The cabins come with a cooler but ice supplies are limited, and pool toys aren’t provided. • High‑clearance car = smoother ride. The Red Rock access road is rutted in spots. • Arrive early for s’mores or bring your own fixings. • Use the complimentary wagons to shuttle gear and sleepy kids.
Bottom Line
Whether you’re a camping‑averse family dipping a toe into the outdoors or seasoned adventurers craving hot showers at day’s end, Huttopia Paradise Springs nails the balance of nature and comfort. Book early, aim for the Coulter Pine loop if mobility matters, and don’t miss the pool at golden hour—it’s...
Read moreGeneral Manager Marie was rude, bias and single out our family., unfairly treated and felt discriminated.||This is a detailed context so to be fair and readers be the judge of it. |We are 6 fam booked 3D2N,we call ahead of time to request if our tent can be all nearby, they agreed. No “blocking fee” was mentioned. Marie said she can accommodate our request since we were only 9 guest booked that day. She even mentioned all the guest last named booked that day over the phone, she definitely doesn’t know HIPPA violation. ||Moving on, We checked in, again no blocking fees were mentioned. On our first night, we were at 305 just in the middle of our group so not to disturb the others. We were chatting and laughing. We didn’t have music, we weren’t yelling. we let the kids sleep by 9pm. one adult was left each tent, the rest adult|stayed at 305 continued our catching up.|Since it’s night time and in mountains so our voices echoed. At 00:30 the night manager patrolling said its quiet time at 10pm. We apologized and we went to our respective tents. ||The next day, it’s my son’s birthday celebration in the tent porch. We continued the fun at the pool around lunch time.We brought candies and pretzels inside and water bottles. Our fault, not following their rules no food and drinks allowed. But then again I saw the other guests that were ahead of us brought in a cooler! a big cooler they were eating meals inside the pool. We were having fun in their general public pool. ||I was sunbathing and General Manager, Marie came straight to me, saying “You really are disrespectful, disregarding our rules, there’s no food allowed clearly a sign in the gate, and your family is too loud, yelling since last night! You should apologize to all of the other guest!” Also she said “ I have to wake up early be here at 8 to that complain last night.” Her tone was condescending, straight disrespectful and rude. We trying to explain but she shut us off and not acknowledging a word we are saying. I know we were at fault, but we didn’t deserve the shaming and disrespect.||Still, we apologize to the other guest that is in the pool, they said they don’t have a problem that we are not that loud. We also apologize for the night loudness since they were our neighbor tent, they said it’s ok they didn’t mind since they were still also up that time. |Marie went to them as well, but didn’t have the same energy and rudeness as she was with us. She is pleasant reminding them no food and drinks allowed.||She left then the other guests came to us and felt sorry for us, he said its our second time here, last time other guest were loud and fighting they didn’t do anything. I am surprise she is being a party pooper to you guys.||We felt uncomfortable, singled out, and unfairly treated. We all decided just to go home and checked out a day early. ||Before we left, we went to front desk to talk to Marie again, we were hoping she will listen to us. Still we had the same energy arguing but more details were unfolded, She said the customer that complained last night was in there office, mentioned to her, “I cannot go to the pool, because the group that was loud last night are there.” Marie said I have to do so something. we said its day time, kids are having fun we are having fun, normal water play, giggles laughing, No Loud like screaming, loud music or being disruptive at all.|Clearly Marie was one sided to the customer. and here ending piece to us, Marie said “ It would resulted differently if your family, apologize to them firs thing in...
Read moreThis was our first time at Huttopia Paradise Springs but it certainly won't be our last! This is camping made easy, you just show up with your personal items and food and that's it.||Check-in is easy and then you head to the parking area near your tent. There you find little carts to use to transport your belongings to your tent. We were staying in the Red Rock section of the site, which meant several ups and downs along a rocky path. I would suggest to the owners that the carts have some kind of breaking system because the downhill portion of the hike with a loaded cart is not for the faint of heart.||Once you arrive at your tent everything is set up for you. Our tent slept 5 (one queen sized bed and a bunk-bed situation with a twin and a full) so there were five of everything from plates to glasses in the kitchen area to bath towels for use in the ensuite bathroom. Each sleeping area has a blackout cover so the sun doesn't wake you up in the morning and there is a ceiling fan and plenty of outlets for charging things and plugging in lamps.||The living room area only has two chairs but outside on the fenced deck there is a couch and 2 folding chairs and the dining table had 6 chairs so there was plenty of spots for a group to hang out. I would suggest that the decks have gates if the owners were looking for input there.||The water and electric are run on solar so they suggest showering during the day, but maybe because we visited in summer we had no problems showering after dark. The kitchen area is pretty well stocked with pots and pans, even a cast iron skillet (they leave cleaning instructions for the latter but nothing to actually clean it with so if you aren't fully prepared with oil to re-season or don't know how to care for it, could be a problem). The tent also comes with an extra-large Yeti style cooler but it is not cooled in advance so if you show up with milk or eggs, you better have your own cooler with you. We used the on-site cooler as a storage bin which actually worked out really well.||There are plenty of places to walk and hike, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a books and games room, a playground, and a bistro. Note that dogs are not permitted inside the pool area, instead one member of your party must sit on the other side of the fence while everyone else is at the pool. This struck me as odd because it is such a dog friendly place and one side of the pool area is shaded by trees and grassy.||Our 6-year-old loved the playground as well as the daily activities that happen each day. One day she made a medallion, learned how to build a fire, and made s'mores... Best Day Ever. They have movie nights, yoga classes, guided hikes, the list goes on. It's basically summer camp for families for a few days. We loved our time at Huttopia Paradise Springs and will definitely be back...
