To get there with a tow behind RV can be a bit difficult with the narrow roads, but if you make it (and can find a spot for the night), you'll be in for a good experience. You'll also have no cell service while there and also lose service while heading to the area (we had both AT&T and Verizon) so plan accordingly. When you firat arrive, to the right is a signpost with various information. This is also where you will go to drop your payment (if you can find a spot) and get your vehicle tag. They have loops A and B that have water and power spots plus an overflow section that does not. There are no reserving spots ahead of time, so you may show up after having made the trek to get there only to find there are no spots available. They have a bathroom with a shower on each loop. However, loop B has been closed for some time for some reason. Once you find your spot and get settled in, get your campsite number and go back to the sign post to fillout the payslip and get your vehicle tag to hang on the inside to show the Park service you paid. Yes, they do check. After that, you can use the table and grill at your spot to whip up some food or head over to the lake and enjoy the water for a bit. The lake is a quick walk from either loop. Unfortunately, none of the sites are close to the water. Still, it's a great spot if you can survive the roads and...
Read moreThe reason for my one star rating is, I booked a site earlier in the day and when I showed up, people (turns out it was the camp host but I didn't know it at the time) surrounded my van (which is covered in a bunch of stickers, a lot of them are pride related) and yelled a lot of things at me. One thing the white haired male camp host said to me was "your kind isn't welcome here. You need to leave." There were 2 younger men with him, one of which kept hitting a stick or something stick-like in his hand in that threatening way bullies do when they're trying to intimidate. The wife kept asking me a lot of personal questions and I responded calmly "I do not feel comfortable answering your questions. They're nosy, and none of your business." Twice they surrounded my vehicle trying to keep me from driving away, and kept trying to lure me out of my vehicle. There was no cell service so I couldn't call anyone at the time. I left and went to a different campsite and I have let the rangers know what happened and they said they would call me back and let me know when it is taken care of. Anybody want to form a group to go camp there in protest abd hang rainbow flags everywhere? If so...
Read moreSuch a lovely campground! Camping is $16/ night + $3 for your vehicle. Plenty of spots for RVs, and if you want to tent camp (which I did), you go to the overflow loop. The entire campground is well kempt, and the trail around the lake is super easy and nice.
It looked like every tent site on the overflow loop has a table and a fire pit. My plot didn't have an electrical hookup, but I don't think any spots on the overflow loop do. Wasn't an issue at all though.
If you're interested in astronomy, this place is great! Last I checked it's a Bortle 4 sky. On a good clear night after the moon has set, you can see the milky way with your own eyes here. It's incredible.
I'll...
