When we first arrived we were greeted by a friendly park ranger, Mavis. She kindly helped us pick out our spot that would accommodate us best and sent us off to set up. Later, I was walking down the trail to find the lake as my boyfriend was asleep in the tent. I was confronted by an older man in a secluded area asking me about our firewood. I later found out it was the campsite host, but was taken aback that he watched and followed me down the trail while I was alone instead of confronting my boyfriend or I in our campsite. After going back to my campsite and waking up my boyfriend, we noticed the older man, the host, staring at us. No matter where in our campsite we would go or what we would be doing, we would catch him staring at us. We had absolutely NO privacy. We experienced this our entire stay.

The lake water was warm, but mucky. We saw kids swimming in it, but we only dipped our feet in. The beach was small and far away from the campgrounds. There was absolutely no biking trails, only a small grass trail for "hiking" that went around part of the campground and up to the beach. The campsites were rocky and had a lot of dead wood laying around them that we could NOT use. The bathrooms were very clean, but the shower timers only lasts about 20 seconds.

Overall, I gave the place 2 stars because the bathrooms were well maintained, but the campground host was creepy and unfriendly. The park itself is very small, so without feeling comfortable in our site, we were unsatisfied with...

We reserved the group site this past Memorial weekend and I have to say that ALL of the rangers were absolutely rude and disrespectful; however the hosts were friendly and kind. I will never go back to Split Rock Creek State Park again and will never recommend the park to anyone else!

The rangers at most MN state parks that we visited in the past ten plus years have been friendly, caring and quite frankly respectful. None of your ranger exhibited any of these traits. All they were concerned with were the following a.) ensuring that no one from our party used the shower. Informing us one time is sufficient, but they made an effort to remind us numerous times even though no one from our party used the showers. b.) a ranger walked past every single one of our cars with a ticket pad in hand, seemingly hoping to write someone a ticket for not having a parking permit. Everyone had a parking permit! He appeared very disappointed that he wasn't able to issue a ticket to someone/anyone from our party. c.) when asked whether there were any discounts for active military personnel the ranger at the office rudely stated "no," when in fact all MN state park offers one free day pass for active military personnel... Perhaps because we are a minority group she didn't believe anyone of us could have been an...

Nice and clean Minnesota State Park. The park staff was friendly and were very accommodating to our larger group. They have a limit on the number of people allowed to stay at each site, we were not aware of that until we arrived. They made an exception for us and we got all of our tents and gear set up in a fairly large site. There is are several docks and a nice fishing pier at the north and south end of the park. Campers can rent paddleboards, canoes or kayaks from the front gate. There is also a nice boat landing with a dock near the middle of the park just before the campground on the north end. We had two boys along on the trip who had no problem catching crappies, sunfish and carp all day. There are several walking/hiking trails and paved roadways to ride bikes. Our time there was peppered with scattered showers so things got a bit muddy, some of the camp sites didn't have much grass, only dirt. The staff is working on that though as they had signs posted not to park vehicles anywhere other than the gravel pads. Decent shower houses and the camp host comes around delivering fire wood. Overall, a decent campground.

Split Rock Creek State Park in Pipestone, Minnesota, is a peaceful gem perfect for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. Centered around the picturesque Split Rock Lake, the park offers scenic trails for hiking and horseback riding, excellent birdwatching, and a shaded, well-maintained campground with both individual and group sites. Its historic Sioux Quartzite dam and unique stone arch bridge add charm and character, while the quiet, serene atmosphere makes it an ideal escape from everyday life. Whether you’re hiking, picnicking, or simply relaxing by the water, this park delivers a refreshing and memorable outdoor experience. October 2025, not luck fishing just saw a few fish jumping like they were practicing something else and not biting my hook. There were a lot of ladybugs, 1 or 2 are cute but hundreds are annoying, being extra this time. Summertime site #3 would be great to have a nice area to play, walking distance to shower/bathrooms, and to launch kayak or canoe or fishing.

We went with a group and had a lot of fun! We were able to nab spots near the bathroom that backed up to each other so we could easily congregate for games, meals, and visiting around the campfire. The lake and dock were close to the campground so we could be hanging with the group while still keeping an eye on the kids (ages10-14) while they kayaks, fished, etc. It's a small state park not far from the highway, it has a trail, beach, etc. There weren't any ranger programs or amphitheater at this park. We headed over to Pipestone to check out the National Monument instead. Only caution is we got there after a super rainy spring and the ground was muddy, and soft. So nearby cattle/swine farms could be smelled when the breeze was right. We either got used to it quickly or by the evening the wind had shifted, because it did get better throughout the weekend. Just an FYI if you have a sensitive gag reflex.
