Wooden Diamond B&B — Hotel in Pipestone

Joyce served our breakfasts on her porch, and they were excellent. When coffee was served she sat and chatted with us. She is very interested to get to know all her guests and tell them all about the area and its history. She explained that she is recently widowed and she just loves to have the company of her B&B guests! She also has great plans for upgrades to her property and is very excited about that. The contractors arrived the day we left. ||My husband and I had a huge room (a studio apartment actually) with private entrance over the two-car garage. There were a few stairs to reach the room, but there was a landing 1/2 way so it was not too difficult, even for me who often has a problem with stairs. She provided lots of nice fluffy towels. There was a table with 4 chairs, plus a desk with a chair inside the apartment. We had a full fridge with a freezer, a microwave and wifi router right in the room. ||There was also a nice balcony with a small bar table and 2 bar stools, to sit out and see the sunset while drinking a glass of wine. Beautiful spot and right on the lakefront. I had a swim and it was very peaceful - hardly anyone around even though it was summer. A tour boat went by. There are train tracks nearby but hardly any trains. ||I wish we could have stayed more than 2 days it...

We rearranged our tour of southern Minnesota in order to visit the Wooden Diamond and it was one of our best decisions. Not only are Joyce and Buzz the very best of hosts, but the nearby wind farms, Pipestone National Monument, and friendly townspeople make this a wonderful place for the tourist. Joyce's breakfast aebleskivers are to die for, and Buzz can direct you to the best local supper club and the best observation points for the 367 wind turbines along the Buffalo Ridge ridge in Lake Benton (something we were especially eager to take in). But above all you need to be ready for real conversation, not the superficial chit chat (or worse) characteristic of most bed and breakfast hosts. We could hardly bring ourselves to leave. || Oh, yes, the rooms: the suite is especially spacious, the beds comfortable, everything clean and every assistance available. Be sure to note the painter of the wonderful landscapes in your room so you can ask her about them at breakfast.|| The Wooden Diamond is off the highway, so keep a sharp eye out for the bright blue state sign that directs you to the proper turn off US Hwy 14 (six miles...

What a great place to stay! We stayed in the “farmhouse” decorated and dedicated to the co-owners farm heritage. 2 queen beds that were incredibly comfortable. 2 French doors open to beautiful Lake Benton. Be sure and get the breakfast cuz Co-owner Jen is absolutely the best cook!! Handicapped bathroom was a plus for us. Refrigerator and microwave and dishes provided. The coffee bar was fabulous. ...
