Ed and Liz were absolutely incredible — the best site hosts we’ve ever encountered (covering sites 30–74). Friendly, helpful, and went above and beyond to make our stay great.
Unfortunately, we had a very different experience with Floyd, who manages sites 75 and up. We arrived at a first-come, first-served site, checked online to confirm it wasn’t reserved, and even saw the physical reservation tag showed a booking two days later. We unloaded two trucks, ready to relax — and then Floyd showed up.
He told us we had to leave because a VP supposedly called that morning to say they were arriving early. When we asked where we could go instead, he just told us to head down the road to another campground. Not helpful at all. To make matters worse, the two other open sites nearby? He said the same thing — reserved, without explanation.
It felt like he was more interested in kicking us out than helping us. Thankfully, we went back toward the sites hosted by Ed and Liz, who confirmed they had availability and welcomed us with open arms. They even gave us three bundles of firewood for the trouble. We ended up with a better site anyway.
The campground itself is beautiful — crystal-clear water, very clean sites, and surprisingly well-maintained bathrooms for a camping area. One of our group members got turned around and also ran into Floyd, who again tried to kick them out instead of simply offering directions.
All in all, amazing place, but avoid dealing with Floyd if you can. Stick with Ed and Liz — they’re what great site...
Read moreSunset Campground at Union Valley Reservoir is one of my favorite camping spots. The location is beautiful with lake access just a short walk from most sites, and the forest setting is peaceful and relaxing. The campsites are spaced out enough to give you privacy, and everything is clean and well maintained.
What really made our stay stand out were the camp hosts, Floyd and Ginny. They’re just awesome. Friendly, helpful, and always around if you need anything. You can tell they really care about the campground and the people staying there. Floyd gave us some great tips about the area, and Ginny was so kind and welcoming, it really added a personal touch to the whole experience.
There is cell service at the campground, which was a nice bonus if you need to check in or look something up. But it still feels like you’re getting away from it all. Between the lake, the peaceful atmosphere, and the amazing hosts, this place is an easy five stars. We’ll...
Read moreOur stay was completely ruined due to the behavior of camp host Katie and Ed. Both are on a major power trip! Multiple times they tried to kick us out of our paid for, reserved site for made up violations. In the end it was clear that her main goal was to get an empty camp site for her family that was coming to stay. They make up rules and regulations on the fly in order to get you to leave. Katie is always drunk (and driving!). There is no reasoning with her nor Ed (also always drunk). You cannot get a word in edgewise with these people and any attempt at justification or defense is met with a threat of removal (which neither of them have the authority to do). She does not like logic and refuses to listen. Camp host Katie terrorized us our entire stay and targeted us unfairly. Completely corrupt. If you want to enjoy your time, do...
