We stayed in the 72nd street house owned by the lodge. The owners were friendly but somewhat paranoid. When I booked I told them I would have 5-6 guests. My son had come ahead of us, and I wasn’t sure if he would be staying with us or not. The owner was very curious about this and almost made me feel like she thought I was trying to trick them somehow. The house was clean but had very few amenities. There was not WiFi and only two televisions. One of those televisions was so small it was barely usable. There is dish but it only worked in the living area. There are multiple signs through out telling you what you can and can’t do. We were not allowed to wear our shoes in the house past the kitchen. There was a sign in the kitchen telling us to wash all our dishes and put them up exactly where they were found. There were warnings on the towels and a price list of what you would be charged if you somehow damaged the towels. They did provide old rags to use for messy spills, but I was fairly terrified to even utilize the towels. There’s only one window unit but it cooled the house nicely. The beds were reasonably comfortable, and there were soaps and shampoos if needed. If you are interested in a cozy, clean place and you are not easily rattled by all of the rules and demands, this is a great place to stay. If we go through this way again, we might think twice about staying only because I am a highly conscientious person, and all of the rules and demands caused me stress. I found myself walking on eggshells shells and not...
Read moreI've stayed at the Red Moose Lodge for several years (multiple times a year for trout, salmon or steelhead fishing). IMO it is the best place to stay in Baldwin...the rooms are super clean and comfy, the decor is cozy and creative, and the price is reasonable. It's the extra touches of the fishing/outdoors themes in the rooms that makes this place feel like home. The continental breakfast is super convenient...especially in those super early mornings before you head down to the river. The owners have always made me feel very welcome and valued. I've been on 3 guided steelhead trips with Clint and I highly recommend them. I always learn something new with each trip; a better way to cast or the most effective flies to use at the time, etc. And he really knows that river...he knows where to find the fish, how to fish each spot, and how to avoid the snags! We usually take a 3 day steelhead trip and do a guided trip one of the days, and it's pretty great to let someone else manage all the gear, make lunch, and basically make it easy to just fish for a day. And if you have a larger group, you can rent the cabin (which I've stayed in once), and that's even more comfortable and cozy. The Red Moose Lodge is the only place I'll ever stay when I'm in...
Read moreRead moreWOW!! So peaceful and relaxing + fun made our trip so great. We came up to canoe but there was more kayak's on the Pere Marquette River than canoes. We were so surprised by how nice this place was that from now on we will not be staying at any other place. I loved how clean and country the rooms were......quilts were beautiful and other little decorations like puzzles, tooth bush holders, soap boxes, towels and a notebook with all the info about places to eat and go in the areas. Very, very professionally done. The owner talked to us about coming back up to fish and I think we are going to put it on our calendar. We love Salmon and I think it would be fun to catch one. He has all the equipments so we won't have to buy anything + he cooks lunch for us out on the river. He will take us in his boat so it is like having a guide all our own. I can hardly wait. It should be a great stress release. We are the type of people who loves getting out and trying new things so this is going to be great for us. Take a minute and google the web site.....it is great. Did I say Baldwin, MI!!!! just north o...
