What a nice campground! We were greeted by a very friendly woman at the gate on Friday afternoon. She promptly got our paperwork sorted out and gave us accurate directions how to reach our site. ||||Our site was spacious and access was a snap to get into and out of. Paved access roads and overall maintenance was top shelf. The site itself was very large, graded properly and very easy to back into without the need for a spotter. Both water and electric hook-ups were in good condition and ready for use. Unfortunately however, there is no sewer connections on these sites. There were however fairly new nicely built tables and fire rings/BBQ grill at the site. ||||The park consists of two loops with sites distributed along both. The waterfront sites are a little smaller, but still large enough for most campers. Our motor coach would not fit here but smaller units wouldn't have a problem. Note however that the waterfront sites are a little closer together to allow more people to enjoy the view there, while the larger sites were all spacious enough for the largest of rigs..||||Don't plan however on watching much TV while here. We only were able to get 4 channels (Fox network) and cell phone service/data was rather elusive at best. We could make phone calls, but you had to pick and choose where you decided to make your calls from. Don't let this detract from the campground though. Personally I don't really need either when we go camping. After all, isn't getting away from everything the whole purpose of going camping to begin with?||||Like most campgrounds, the gates into/out of the park are locked at night. This campground has motorized gates and you are given an access code to open the gates via a keypad after hours. This was one of the nicest setups we've seen so far!||||One bonus of camping here is the ability to go four-wheeling. Being located at the north end of the Ocala National Forest, trails abound! We along with the two other couples we went with, took our Jeeps and were able to get a trail ride in over our weekend. ||||One final gripe I have, isn't as much the problem of the campground but that of the people not knowing how to empty the holding tanks on their campers. Seeing how there is only one dump station here, you are at the mercy of those in front of you. The clowns that were in front of us took the better part of an hour to empty their tanks and move on. Honestly, learn how to use your equipment BEFORE you go camping. It's just rude and unfair to everyone else...
Read moreWas only there to check out the camp site for tents. 1. There really close to each other. No privacy. 2. There is no water source and 3 the restrooms are at the very end. A long walk or push if your in a wheelchair. And last there not to cheap. Why pay if you can drive down the road about 2 or 3 miles and put up your tent for free and if you need some water, just use your water filter. Plus the woman in the gate house was trying to sell me stuff after I told her I'm just driving in to check it out. Myself I'm never going back to this site. 20 dollars is way to much and you need to make a reservation on a computer well in advance. In the Ocala forest you just drive in and set up your tent or your small travel trailer. This place is a tent or RV camp site. The RV sites have no privacy. It's like parking in a wide open field. RV camping is not my type of camping. Wasting all that gas to drive a large home on wheels into a field don't cut it in my book. Pack your backpack with everything you need and then find a peacefully area to pitch your tent, then making your sleeping gear together, then collecting enough dead firewood for your stay and start a safe fire to make your dinner and to boil some water to make a cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate. And enjoy the peace and quiet. But keeping your ears on full alert, just in case a bear or any other wild animal comes close to your site. Having your bear spray or pepper spray ready or a few fire crackers or your sidearm. In Florida you can open carry while your hunting,...
Read moreThis is the second time we have been to Rodman Campground. First time was with two other families, this time by ourselves. Again, Rodman did not disappoint!||||We were greeted by a very friendly woman who got us checked in and on our way in no time at all. Since we had been here before, we knew exactly where we were going and headed right to our site. ||||Our site was spotless, and ready for us even though we arrived before their normal check in time. Everything worked and hookup was a breeze. ||||Restrooms and showers were spotless, but a bit dated. The seats in the showers were on the verge of failing, but did work. Otherwise, everything worked as one would expect. The only real gripe about Rodman, is the fact that cell service is sketchy at best. Likewise if you are looking for TV stations, good luck. I think we found 1 maybe 2 stations with marginal reception, but honestly, we didn't go there to watch TV. Just be aware if the weather is bad your entertainment options may be limited.||||Like most State Parks, sewer hookups are nonexistent. The dump station is in perfect working order and kept clean and functional. The only thing you may find here is several people waiting in line to empty their tanks but this is typically a given everywhere.||||All-in-all, we had another great stay at Rodman. We plan on making more visits to this campground just to get away in the middle of the week. Next time I might even bring some fishing equipment to...
