ZERO stars. We just returned home from SoCal Camping and are deeply alarmed. We paid a lot of money expecting a "newly renovated campground." What we discovered instead was an in-progress construction zone with numerous health and safety code violations:
massive holes in the ground with caution tape. numerous water spigots tethered to electrical outlets for customer use (are you kidding me?!). loose rusty barbed wire near tents and nearby pathways. showers without hot water constructed around jagged rocks. power never installed in tents - a host of brand new, dirt-covered lamps and extension cords were discovered in a nearby supply tent.
Below are numerous quotes and unfulfilled promises from our texts:
"recently renovated campground" - misleading. renovation implies redo. This was a construction zone.
"working to winterize in the next two weeks" - no attempt at all to insulate or make weather resistant against freezing temperatures - just a pinewood deck and a tent. The wind blew hard through wide open cracks in the floor and we froze every night.
"space heaters inside the tents" - there were none. Nor was there any electrical in the tents. On the second day, we were provided two small heaters for four families.
"hot water for the showers" - absolutely no hot water at all. And the pipes froze on the second night.
"a firepit area exclusively for your site" - no metal firepit like in the pictures anywhere to be seen.
Your "newly renovated site" "will have its own toilet." We were promised "two toilets for that area." There were four toilets in a common area but none exclusive to us. In Covid times, this is an issue.
"a sink in the bathroom tent" - no sinks anywhere to be found.
"a picnic table and a large table for you to use" - the plastic picnic table sat four seats for four families. There was no "large table" to be seen.
"a host available to greet us" - host was incommunicado upon arrival. We had to figure it out ourselves.
Needless to say, our family vacation was ruined. One group went home early. Another cancelled. And our children froze under the covers. When we voiced our concerns, SoCal's ground team of Carrie and Dan apologized vigorously. They're nice people and clearly struggling with poor management. The locals expressed shock that SoCalOut had the audacity to open for business when clearly they weren't ready. It wasn't long before their communications team went dark and stopped returning our calls for...
Read moreI loved this glamping up by Kernville, it was so cute and cozy, the canvas tent was great to sleep in, and meant I could pack less for the trip. The tents are spacious, well appointed and from what I saw most spots afforded a lovely amount of privacy from neighbors...esp as compared to a typical fed/state campground. We brought extra blankets (mid-April) but probably could have done fine with what was provided plus a hat. We were worried about the site after seeing a review that it was in disarray. The site is still being developed and I wouldn’t let my kids run around without supervision because of that, but for anyone with common sense and reasonable expectations it is great. Lounging in the tent with the doors pulled open and a cool breeze in the warm...
Read moreDo yourself a favor and skip over this place! Not worth it especially with his deceiving description about everything. He's trying to get $ from us through airbnb over something we couldn't prevent because the "tents" are already damaged and don't lock properly! He is unprofessional and petty. The whole area needs attention and if you look around all the "tents" have issues and there is a community Kuerig? Seriously? Also over priced for what you don't get that says it's included. We thought we had settled things after calling him out and he gave us $22 bucks back but just a winey host who could fix it for less than 10 bucks. Don't say I...
