Wishon Campground is a little hidden gem in the midst of Sequoia National Forest. Not sure whether to complain or avoid pointing out the lack of signage indicating this site from State Route 190. It is tucked back away from the main road and offers plenty from the surrounding areas.
There were only a handful of fellow campers at the end of the 4 mile trek along a fork of the Tule River. We were pleasantly surprised by the canopy of oak trees mixed in with big pines to give quite a shielded cover from the sun throughout the day...shielding some of the stars at night. The flow of the river masques the sound of any noise in the campground and most everyone didn't make much noise. We couldn't even hear our neighbor's generator the next site over.
Overall plenty of room for our tent and nice privacy in between sites. It's a little harder to find scrap firewood within the campground to scavenge, but there's plenty in the surrounding area that's easy to pick up and use for a camp fire.
It was our son's first camping trip ever. He enjoyed every minute and started crying when we had to leave. Our entire family had a great time. Restrooms were pretty clean, they picked up the trash on the second day we were there and had "reserved" signs with our name and site number before we got their.
Easy access to nearby Lower and Upper Coffee campgrounds, several nice waterfalls, trails near the power plant and close to Camp Nelson for gas and supplies. A little over an hours drive to Trail of 100 Giants. Very nice. We will be definitely be back.
TIP: Camp Nelson or the town of Springville are the closest gas stations around. Approx. 12.5 miles away either way. Bring gas cans with you if you plan to trek and survey the entire area as there's nothing...
Read moreNot a single complaint for this site!! It was everything I expected it to be (minus the fishing, which has nothing to do with the campsite) and more!! The camp site host Randy (and his sweet pup) were amazing and contributed to my experience being even better...such a friendly gentleman and willing to give a hand if you needed anything. I picked site #35 and it was SUPER roomy and big, perfect for your family if you’re going as a group...lots of trees for shade and amazing location if you wanted to have a short walk to the river. No running water for this visit (didn’t need it anyway) but maybe during other seasons they turn it on. Vault restroom was always stocked with toilet paper, nice and clean too! There was a spot a little passed the 208 road (to enter for the campsite) off the 190 that had some phone service coverage if you had Verizon...you just have to pay attention to your phone...safe spot too on the side of the road. I’m already planning my next visit to Wishon! Thanks again to Randy for allowing us to really enjoy this site and for his constant...
Read moreHere are a few pros and cons to our experience
pros- its a gorgeous location, the water is refreshing, met some great people at campsite, and its easy to get to, lots of shade was great
cons- camp host is the worst. We got a flat tire and he basically said im too old and fat to help. All we asked was if he could guide us in changing a flat. We had never changed a flat and we were nervous. Camp host never back to check if we were ok. Lucky we got some help from campers next door. Basically your on your own out there. He said ..I can give you wifi to contact AAA. When I said ok, give me info...he hesitated to give WIFI INFO...like really, what are we going to do with that information?
From the moment we got to campsite he kept greeting everyone and welcoming everyone, what a joke. Camp host needs to retire if hes too old and too fat to help campers.
Also, the bathrooms were never clean, didn't have toilet paper.
This is a first and last time going to this...
