Extremely pleasant people work here. Everyone was very very very willing to help with your needs or providing information. Our room was basically a small two level apartment. An almost full kitchen (no oven), a small table that four could eat at, a little living room with TV and a faux fireplace and the softest fleece blanket you've ever felt (right off the kitchen so more people could eat here), the biggest bathroom you could hope for in a hotel (biggest space in the mini apartment), an amazing bed with a variety of pillows, and a deck with privacy barriers that wraps around the wing and provides you access to the main lobby/food/bar/pool and hot tub. The "room" seemed as if it was set up for a multi day/week stay. I was astonished about the size, cleanliness, layout, and decor. We had dinner at the restaurant that is owned by the Inn, Diamond's Edge.We were able to book a reservation through the very kind person at the front desk who later called to confirm the reservations. Our initial thoughts were that it was going to be similar to some of the other tourist traps that other hotel/restaurants have (really high prices and "ok'ish" food). However, I would have to say that this was hands down in the top two best meals I ever had. It would be an absolute waste to not dine at this establishment while staying at this hotel. The prices are a little on the high side, but you are definitely paying for the quality of the food and not just the amazing view of the Marina that the restaurant pretty much sits on. Alot of the locals eat here so if you would like an even better view then I suggest booking early or even walking through before checking into the hotel. We also had breakfast at the hotel itself which also provides amazing food. The Island that the hotel/restaurant sit on is both big and small. Small enough to walk around and explore it's senery (amazing remodeled and some abondoned military structures and beautiful woods and multiple beaches); with respect to the locals that live on the Island (privacy is important here). However, it is big enough to accept the short golf cart ride courtesy of the hotel. All the locals and the hotel own and drive golf carts because vehicles are not allowed on the island. There is no need to rent one because the hotel is kind enough to provide cart rides to and from its establishments. The hotel also offers free bicycle usage upon an liability agreement. The bicycles provided were probably the worst part I would have to say. Once I had found one that seemed to work out of the 7 still available, it was with many problems and could barely be ridden. However, this was a free addition and walking was still just as good. You can also bring your own if you wished (free to bring onto the ferry). The hotel also provides an amazing heated pool/hot tub that is in the back of the hotel that has an amazing view of the lobby (the beautiful picture you see on the website). They also have a gas firepit that we had taken full advantage of along with some of the other nice guests. Also the bar is about a minute walk from this location. This was another amazing thing about this hotel. Sitting around the fire with friendly strangers, conversing/laughing and having an after dinner cocktail. Between the hotel amenities and the Island's sights there's about a days worth of things to do here. Overall, I was extremely pleased with my stay and would highly recommend it to anyone. The beautiful hotel, this history, the service, the food, the atmosphere and the Island were all amazing. The hotel has a spa resort kind of "vib" and i definitely felt relaxed during my entire stay. I 100% will be returning and am...
Read moreWe stayed at the Inn a few weeks ago; the customer service was quite disappointing! Hopefully, they get things under control, or I’m afraid to see what happens to this location.
Upon check in we were early, we figured our room wasn’t ready; although our thought was after driving from Rockland and taking the 1pm ferry over, we would grab a drink and enjoy lunch at the Inn’s Lobby restaurant as advertised on the website. We were told by the manager Eric that after he was finished checking in another couple he would get us settled. However, after he checked in that couple, he disappeared to take a couple on a tour for their upcoming wedding. We were then asked by the valet how she could help, she gave us a menu and introduced us to Thomas the server. We ordered 2 Island Rum Runner from the menu, it was soon clear neither knew how to actually make the drink. So we chose alternates. We were then told we were unable to get any food as the kitchen closed early due to the chef having to go to the restaurant to prep for dinner service which starts at 5pm. We sat on the patio with our drinks and ate some of our own snacks while we waited for our room. When my husband went in for another round of drinks an hour later, the Valet stated she couldn’t serve us or anyone else anything because the manager was not present (I believe she is underage) She was very kind and was as helpful as she could be! It was only her second week and said she wasn’t trained yet on everything. We had to ask Eric around 4:30pm when he returned if our room was ready. He had forgotten all about us. We were hoping it was an off day, but, Breakfast the next day wasn’t any better. Eric was standing at the bar conversing with other staff while Thomas was obviously struggling from lack of training to manage breakfast service. The couple in front of us was sat at a dirty table, our silverware was dirty, coffee was cold, we had to ask for things multiple times….and that was AFTER Eric took charge and waited on us himself.
Unfortunately, it seems the Inn as well as the restaurant the Inn manages is understaffed and the staff they do have are grossly under trained. It’s unfortunate as the Island, the Inn grounds and the rooms themselves are beautiful! We were not the only folks who shared the same sentiments that weekend.
As a couple who had traveled for almost our entire careers, we are patient and beyond understanding in many ways, but, this weekend was deemed the “Twilight Zone” by a number of us staying. It felt as we were almost invisible to some of the staff. This stay was extremely underwhelming and disappointing!
Tiki Bar- closed Main Bar- closed every time we passed it, Valets would occasionally step in Main restaurant- below average Market- not open for the season/not staffed Diamond’s Edge- drink ingredients/food items not prepped yet for the season according to bartender Crown Jewel Restaurant/Market (not managed by restaurant)- OUTSTANDING!!!! Don’t...
Read moreOur stay this summer for a friend's wedding was a total disaster. Communications with the hotel after the fact have been even worse.
The stay: Checkin was chaotic and took forever as the desk was staffed by a teenager with no support. Food was very sketchy. At the wedding, catered by Diamond's Edge, many guests at our table asked for extremely rare steaks to be cooked more but the servers never brought them back. In the dining room, simple orders were incorrect or never delivered. It was almost impossible to get black coffee at breakfast. as has been mentioned in previous reviews, the bartender Fernando is the one bright spot Tables were dirty and silverware and napkins were nowhere to be found. The Inn said they offered a shuttle service from the ferry but then sent my very visibly pregnant friend on a 10 minute straight uphill hike to the hotel without offering her a ride. Several times, we were given keys that didn't work The fire alarm went off in the middle of the night, and it took over half an hour for them to turn it off.
Billing Issue/communicating with the resort: I was the first in my party to arrive, so I put my card down for incidentals. My friend, who had booked our adjoining rooms in the wedding block, arrived not long after I did. The first thing she did upon checkin was put down her card for payment as well as incidentals. At this point, IDC should have deleted my payment information. However, upon checkout, IDC charged me three times. Twice for one of the rooms, and once for the other, adjoining room. When I got home, I called about the charges and the Inn refunded me for only the double charge. For the next two months, my friend and I called and emailed the hotel with almost no luck. People took messages on the manager Erik’s behalf but he never returned them. There were a few times I called and said who I was, I was abruptly disconnected. My friend gave her credit card information over the phone and the hotel never did anything with it—the second time that the Inn lost her credit card information. Finally, we got the inn to communicate in writing. They finally sent my friend an itemized bill, but with no means to pay it securely.
The staff at the Inn were rude and unapologetic in every exchange. We also tried to contact Colwen Corporate with no success. They also refuse to give any sort of credit for our poor experience.
There are countless places to stay in Maine, I recommend avoiding The Inn at Diamond Cove and all other...
