One of the best state parks in the Richmond VA area. Newer park, so all facilities are in pristine shape. Miles of beautiful trails, 3 canoe ramps into the James river, 2 camping areas, equine trails, and huge beautiful fields. I love the camping. The two camp areas are: 1-Canoe In for $15/night (includes parking pass), which has a canoe ramp right in it with 9 sites, firewood stocked at all times for $6/12 pieces honor system pay, all sites are marked off with timbers and have graveled level areas for tents, picnic tables and fire rings, one bathroom with toilet only, densely wooded, absolutely beautiful, you can drive and park (camp sites are about 0.2 miles from the nearest parking lot). 2-Regular Camping for $35/night, 16 sites (I think) and 6 yurts, nice restroom with toilets and showers, several trailer/rv sites, all sites have power and water hookups (park had RV dump site), all sites graveled and level, all sites have trees between them for privacy, includes parking pass so you can drive to different parts of the park, attendants that live on site for assistance at any time, sites are cleaned after every stay... Both camping places are totally worth it. Also, animals are allowed. Have fun! And remember, pack in pack out - never leave any trash, take everything you brought with you out with you (there are plenty of trash cans...

Be aware that the published rules are not entirely clear, and the camp host will summon the police on any/every infraction, clear or unclear. This is not a good park to visit if for more than two people stay per spot or a group paying for multiple spots and you want to visit each other. The camp host doesnât like that dynamic and will find ways to call the police on you constantly.
For example:
Once the police are called, you will be a target for the rest of your stay....for example...
if a vehicle is temporarily in your spot to unload camping supplies for more than an hour, you will get a police visit.
if your are drinking alcohol under your own awning in your paid for spot, during the aforementioned police visit and a container of alcohol Is visible, you will be reprimanded and told you must take it inside your camper/tent...
Stayed at the River Bend Campsite at the beginning of the week so there were a lot of available sites. All the sites with the exception of the ones near the camp entrance were well shaded and were well spaced from each other so that campers arenât on top of each other. Most were back in, but there were a few pull throughs. All were modern gravel sites with plenty of room. There was enough room to park 3 cars if I wanted to on my site (#23). Power, water and Verizon were good. Site wasnât level, but the wasnât to steep to correct with on set of blocks. Bathhouse was super clean with good hot water. The trails were well maintained and could easily accommodate a hike/bike/horse and if you canoe or kayak there were several launch sites available. The camp host and Rangers were excellent. Always smiling and friendly!! And to the lady Ranger at the Office (no name tag), get on those venders to resupply the stuff you ran out of!! Told you Iâd put you my review ha ha. All jokes aside this Ranger was also super nice and she felt bad because they were out of certain park specific items. Guess I will just have to come back for them and to enjoy...
