Bradshaw Mountains, located south of Prescott, provides nature lovers with serene primative camping (i.e. no running water, toilets, or electricity) in a picturesque setting.
This area was seculeded, but the rich history of a bustling logging and mining camp was apparent through the worn down logging roads that cut through the ponderosa pines. The century-old paths made for excellent hiking and wildlife viewing. The prospect of striking it rich through mining brought hordes of hopeful settlers to this part of Arizona in the mid-1800's and their legacy lives on in these mountains.
The Bradshaw Ranger District encompasses the Bradshaw Range and extends to the surrounding areas beyond the city of Prescott.
The Bradshaws offer cool relief from the desert below. Campers have an abundance of options for where to send up their "home base" and can choose from an abundance of developed and dispersed recreation opportunities.
Mount Union, in the Bradshaws, is the highest elevation on the forest, at nearly 8,000 feet. From 7,000 to 8,000 foot elevation along the Bradshaw Range, the vegetation changes from pure forests of ponderosa pine to mixed conifer forests of Douglas-fir and white fir. The weather throughout the Bradshaw District is moderate, with daytime temperatures averaging 50 degrees in the winter and 70 degrees in summer. Recreation opportunities abound throughout all seasons.
Granite Mountain Wilderness, the forest's only "urban" wilderness, is located just a few short miles from Prescott. Other scenic attractions include Thumb Butte, Lynx Lake and the Thumb Butte Loop, as well as drives to Palace Station and Crown King. For more information, please contact the Bradshaw...
Read moreWe took our 30ft travel trailer down to this site. There are a couple of turns that were a little precarious getting around and some rocky bridge crossings, but the road in and out was totally doable with our rig to this spot.
NOTE, This spot is RV friendly, assuming your vehicle can handle the terrain. I did hike almost a mile past this site to site 4, or 2, further up Wolf Creek Road, and none of the other spots appeared to be even remotely friendly.
I recommend this spot, it was quiet, though there were other vehicles that passed...
Read moreThis place is gross! I’ve been all over the country and I’ve never seen such disgusting trash filled sites. Even the ranger drove by, I waved and he just looked mad and didn’t wave. I came to Prescott to bike but will never stay here again! It’s like getting to a dirty public restroom that you have to sleep in. I also drove way up the road and checked out all the sites, all gross and the further up you go the worse it gets. It’s sad. I would pick up trash but I don’t even know where to start and I didn’t bring a f-in hazmat...
