This was year 28 for my family at the Fireside Inn. We randomly send texts to each other through out the year counting down the days until we go back. We celebrate getting the RSVP in the mail in February. Christmas isn't just Christmas, its halfway to going back to the Fireside. The cabins are rustic, this isn't a luxury resort. This is the kind of place where the kids can run into the cabin right out of the lake. You can really put your feet up and relax, because the furniture is meant to be USED not just look pretty. You can have a fire in the cabin or at the lake on cool night. Hang a hammock somewhere about the property all week and take a nap after your FRENCH TOAST breakfast (there are other things for breakfast, but the french toast is something we specifically yearn for throughout the year). There are activities sometimes announced at breakfast, like: use found items and make a hat to wear to dinner tonight. There is a boat launch and dock space for private boats, or there are canoes, kayaks, lifejackets, bikes, and more available for anyone to use. Stargaze from the main dock on a clear night and see the Milky Way. Each cabin has its own history and minor amenities. You stay in the same cabin each year. We leave board games and puzzles in the cabinet for all the families to use. Bring a book, take a book. We accidentally left a dog leash one year.... it was waiting for us the following year. Many cabins have paintings of the cabin in them that guests have done and left over the years. You also stay the same week each year, so you're there with the same families year after year. Kids get to grow up together, and deep bonds are made with other guests. One family we know has a trust fund made by great-grandpa that exists only to pay for the family to continue to go to the Fireside Inn year after year. Its like summer camp for the whole family. The Fireside Inn is where our family reconnects every year, recharges our batteries, and refills our souls. It is literally a home...

A cool Northern breeze just blew the cobwebs from my brain. I spent the week at the Fireside Inn in Presque Isle, Michigan.
It is tranquil - towering, deep green balsam and spruce trees carpet the forest floors with fragrant pine needles. The warmth of the sun on the forest floor releases a captivating perfume peculiar to Northern Michigan. There is nothing like it.
Endless food. Delicious and (important to a big eater like me) satisfying. How do they make their tuna macaroni salad? Something so simple, yet we were commenting on it. Three dessert choices - "homemade"! Eggs cooked exactly to order in the a.m. and pancakes with lacey brown edges.
The grounds face the West, so you are guaranteed orange and pink sunsets over Grand Lake. Speeeeeeectacular. Friendly guests around the lakeside bonfire every night - you feel safe because it seems everyone gets to know one another and then watches out for each other. If you are a lone traveler, you are not alone by the time you leave (thanks, Kathy and Gene!). Whether intended, it's the signature of Fireside Inn.
Fun owners who interact with their guests and can be silly to create the lighthearted, inclusive mood. Nice staff - the kids who wait tables in the Dining Room are as congenial and accommodating as you could hope for.
Fireside has a unique vibe and the one word that comes to mind is: restorative. My allergies all but disappeared. I will be back. So highly recommended! Thank you very...
