Beautiful and timeless. The place is nice. Granted, it's rustic-ish, but in terms of it's location, if you're looking for a "5 star" place, you should probably be looking elsewhere, probably an hour or so to the northwest. Most of the rooms share communal bathrooms - which is appropriate for the style and period of the place - while the honeymoon suite has everything that a modern building would offer. The complimentary breakfast isn't a buffet, it's the owner's cooking up something fresh and delicious and the area seems , generally, 10° cooler than any other landlocked location. Which brings me to the next point - there's no A/C, but the weather's so nice on this stretch of land that it doesn't seem necessary anyway - just open the windows and let the air flow (which is one of the reasons this was "the" destination back in the late 1800's and early 1900's. They've got enough room to host events (including modest weddings), and it seems that groups book this ENTIRE place for a couple of days at a time during the summer. I have stayed here more than once, and while it's different, it's a place that I love, and while it might be more rustic than what the modern stay is expected to be, I've got no regrets. ...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I were looking for a place to stay for an extra night in Presque Isle because we had a family trip that her and I came up for a couple days late. Most places wouldn't take us around the area but for a day but this lodge did and wow! What an experience! The staff, are some of the nicest, most respectable people we met up there, completely going out of their way for us on price, the room we stayed in, the breakfast and even starting a fire just because we mentioned it! I have never had any place and it's staff up or down state treat me with such care and make me feel at home. The place itself is beautiful, quaint, and full of history. The only complaint we had is we wished we could have stayed another day, (which they offered two-nights for only $50 more!) but unfortunately our vacation was over and work is a thing. If you're ever in Presque Isle it's definitely worth checking out and I can safely say we will DEFINITELY be...
Read moreBED BUGS. Myself and my family members were bit by bedbugs the first few nights of a 4 day stay at the Presque isle lodge. They claimed to have not dealt with this in 30 years but they had ample supply of new looking (but used) bedbug specific treatments. And anyone who knows about bedbugs would know that the way they tried to deal with it will not kill all of them. Also, even though we rented the entire cabin privately, on a couple occasions complete strangers were walking around with no regard to or knowledge of this. The keepers were kind but considering the horrific infestation I would warn anyone from renting from them at all in future (unless they did ALL the necessary treatments to assure that the bed bugs were dead and not...
