Stayed in the Flip Flop Room which was larger than initially envisioned. All of the themed touches and splashes of color everywhere made the experience fun, light, and inviting! Then there's the FOOD!!! I only had breakfast there but both of them were exceptional! I ordered the porker house signature breakfast on day one and when asked was told with a smile "It's a commitment" and boy was it ever! It was huge and every bite was an experience. Morning two was the seafood eggs Benedict and from now on, every eggs Benedict will be compared with that one. It was THAT good! The waitstaff were phenomenal and while others have left reviews about the time awaiting food, as they say, all good things come to those who wait, and if there should ever be one (which we did not experience) it is SO worth it! This leads me to say that while our food came to us in a normal time, I came from the hustle and bustle of city life but am now accustomed to life in a small town, so the lesson here is relax, take in the scenery, and enjoy life a little. After all, that's what a vacation is all about isn't it? That said, I will be making the Parker house the destination hub of choice whenever I vacation in northern lower Michigan. Thank you to the Parker House for an overall...
Read moreFirst time since the new ownership. The food was excellent! Service left a lot to be desired!! A.... Lot! There were 3 tables open after we were seated. We waited about 30 minutes before being asked for drink order. All 3 of us requested coffee. At least 10 minutes before coffee was delivered. After order was taken, we waited at least 30 min., no check on coffee freshener. Finally, Order was taken. 1) Hardy breakfast with a 1/2 order french toast, 1) chicken fajita omelet and a seafood Benedict. We waited another 30 minutes for food. I thought maybe they were waiting for the chickens to lay the eggs or Juan Valdez to pick the coffee beans for the coffee. There were fewer tables full as time went on. At the conclusion of our meal, there were 5 tables with patrons. 1-1/2 hours later it was time to go. We had one coffee refill in that time. Again....food was excellent, wait staff really...
Read moreI stayed here about 5 years ago and said that I wouldn't stay there again because of the previous owners had let it go. Thankfully, the updates that the new owners have made since then have been great and made this place my go-to. The room I stayed in was good enough for 1-2 people. There are different size cabins for the number of people you have. The restaurant was only open on the weekends, since it wasn't their busy season but I did get to eat there on the Sunday I had checked in. My sandwich and fries were very good. If they were open during my whole stay, I wouldn't have ever needed to go into town. I came to Alpena to do some smallmouth bass fishing. Long Lake is my preferred lake to fish up there and The Parker House is where I'll be staying when I...
