Stayed Labor Day weekend (Thur-Sun).we stayed in the hotel on the second floor. My 9 yr old daughter tripped on the ripped carpet and hurt herself. (Pictures attached). First night we went to the pools. (Sure glad pool admissions are included in hotel fee). Shortage of staff and so the Olympic pool was closed, while life guard was attending to one of the two waterslides that was opened (speed slide was closed and never did open all weekend). When the Olympic pool did open (8:30 pm) the water was so cold that hardly anyone used it. The hot pools were nice. Friday- one more staff member was on duty. Therefore the Olympic pool and water slide (once again, only one slide out of two were opened) were open all day. We didn’t even attempt to go in that pool- water was 77 degrees. We stayed in the cooler of the two hot pools. We checked in and it looked as if someone hadn’t cleaned it for a while (as if it was cleaned a week ago & no one had stayed in it since/or anyone freshened it up). Although the room was clean, the toilet looked like it hadn’t been scrubbed for several days. Bathroom sink looked a bit dusty. First night in our room I killed two ear wigs. The tv only has Netflix- no local stations/Disney/etc. Rooms (at least room #5) are updated. Big shower with a nice “rain” shower head. Comfortable beds- I felt like I was sinking into it. Upon arrival to Preston, We had dinner at Mis Amores Mexican restaurant. I recommend the shrimp fajita. That was delish! My daughter had the cheeseburger and their fries were scrumptious- I tasted a few. Another evening we ordered Pizza Hut for the win because of their delivery. It was nice not to have to drive 10 mins into town after a day of swimming. Besides we both LOVE their Cinnabons. Our last night in town, we drove in to Big J’s. Their food and ice cream were yummy. Saturday the weather was nicer and the place was busy. The Olympic pool was ICE cold (weather high was 80*). Once again, we did not go in that pool- as many others didn’t either. Nearly all the guests resorted to the cooler of the two hot pools. My daughter couldn’t enjoy the ONE slide that was open cause everyone was coming down right after another and her anxiety kicked in and was afraid she would get landed on. I talked her into finally going (she loves waterslides) and she said while in line kids were yelling at her to go. She was doing as the rules said and wait in between sliders. She said she counted to 10 and then went. Once is all she done cause she said the kids yelling at her were enough (pictures attached to show how busy the riders came down. Not sure how no one got hurt). If this place is short staff, where are the owners? They should be here to help and I never saw anyone else but the young employees for 3 days that we stayed. As old as I am and have lived in SE Idaho, I have never been here to Bear River. I wanted to try somewhere other than our regular places- Heisi and Lava. Honestly, although this place is located in the beautiful country, we won’t be back. The staff (ALL young - doubt anyone was over 21-25) were friendly. A few of them didn’t know too...
Read moreSuper over priced for what you get. If you are camping here, don't. We are tent camping. It's a fenced in dirt area where they put all their garbage. Absolutely no shade whatsoever, and the wind blowing all the dust up all over. Also the bathroom for the campers it's a hike away. We got sent to the back junk lot, suffering in the extreme heat and dryness. The ground was so pokey that our big Agnes tent got a hole in the bottom! They let other people go pitch their tents in the fenced off area around the pool that had wooden boweries and actual grass. The tent area want even close to being full! The RV area is ok, but not all hookups work. Also you will not be sleeping because of the loud parties they have, after hours. They would not let us in the pool early in the morning even though it's summer and you can't get in later in the day because it's 95° and it's too hot to get in when they open. The Olympic pool will never open, no matter what they tell you. The fast slide also, will never open. You should get to pay a one time fee to access the pool anytime you want when you stay there, but no, you pay each time. And way too much because one slide and main pool aren't even working. They advertise to rent river things to float down the river. But the owners took the times and didn't return them the three days all of my family and extended family were there, wanting to rent tubes. It's 8$ too so they lost a lot of money with that. What kind of owners takes the equipment to use personally when their facilities are packed and their customers are wanting to use them? They store their hydrocloric acid barrel waste in the tent area camping. 🤷🤪The locker rooms are nice and clean. No military discount. The condo is super nice, but no AC. So it actually was better to not stay in. They got new hardware for the hotel doors, them painted the does, spraying paint all over the doorknobs lol. This place has potential but the new owners don't have a clue what they are doing. It's fun to go when you aren't camping, and have really low expectations. Don't camp, even at the over priced hotel. just come to play in the water for a few hours then go home. It's good for that. Head to lava hot springs instead....
Read moreI wanted to take my son on a weekend getaway before his school started this year so I thought this place would be perfect- a 2hr drive from Salt Lake with pools and a cute cabin we can use. Boy, was I wrong. We came in a bit late at 930pm and the place looked like a ghost town. Some kids were just getting out of the pool and the office was closing shortly. I booked a cabin, I was told there is electricity in the cabin. When we got there, there were power outlets, but none that were actually available for guests to use, i.e. I had to unplug the mini fridge/lamp/tv/fan in order to charge my electronics. The light in the room was very dim, I mean not even a night light brightness. I had to take the shade off the lamp in order to get some visibility. I went back to the front desk to talk to the girl that worked there, and she said she would talk to the manager who was coming in at 11pm for closing of the office. No one ever came to see me. According to the website, there are shower/restroom facilities available for every guest on the property, but her directions were very vague. I had luckily brought my own blankets and bedding, and boy, did I need them. The sheet on the bed (which was more like a foldaway cot) looked like a prop from a Forensic Files episode. There were some spots on it, bleached over and over again. The blanket is not something I would use to have a dog sleep on it. I somehow managed a couple of hours of sleep. The office does not open until 11am so we decided to drive into town to find somewhere to eat. Before we left, we saw some people using the restrooms, so when we got there, I only saw 4 bathroom stalls. 2 of them had the Out of Order sign on them. Out of the remaining 2, only one had toilet paper. I honestly thought I was in a barn when I saw what I think is meant to be the shower area. There is so much decay and mold that I would even be scared to take a shower with flip flops without using a pair of industrial...
