We stayed here 3 weeks while visiting family in the area, and sadly were disappointed in our stay. If other places were not booked, we would have left. We will be staying elsewhere in our future visits. Most of the amenities advertised are not offered, or don’t work properly. No idea how KOA has allowed them to keep their status.
Pros: Nice staff Decent sized pull through sites Close to essential shopping and restaurants in the area but still secluded.
Cons: Internet issues - we were given two access codes for two devices, but we were unsuccessful in adding more devices after calling the number given multiple times and when we notified the front desk, they said they didn’t control the internet and could not help. This was a huge bummer, we were willing to pay to add devices, but we couldn’t get our smart TV’s connected to be able to stream because they couldn’t figure out how to add extra devices. Then on the last week, the internet just stopped working on one of our two devices (my husband and I each used it on our laptops for work), and I spoke with someone from the wireless company every day, and they kept saying they were looking into it but was never resolved. The front desk just referred us to the number. I missed several important work meetings because of this, and was a huge disappointment.
No hot tub like advertised (one of the things I really looked forward to with all our hiking and activities)
No jumping pillow and basketball hoop is broken
“Game Room” is a table with some board games in the same space as the office. Not really welcoming or conducive to actual use.
The dog park is a fenced in dirt pit that was too muddy to use most of the time. The only park we’ve ever stayed at that didn’t have artificial turf or rocks so pets don’t get messy. On their map it looks green as if it might have had it. It’s also a pretty far trek from the campground, you have to walk through a parking lot of storage to even get to it. Why they don’t have the dog park next to the actual park and the storage further away is not well planned out. We ended up just leash walking our dogs around the perimeter, but lots of people don’t pick up after their dogs despite the provided poop bag dispensers, so watch where you step.
Speaking of dogs, there are several long term campers here that leave their dogs outside their trailer unattended (fenced in or on a chain), but means that they start barking every time dogs walk by. Interesting that their rules prohibit this, but they don’t enforce it with their long term campers.
When we hooked up the cable, we did not get near the number of channels advertised.
It’s right next to the interstate which is common and we did not mind, but what we didn’t expect is to be so close to train tracks, with trains going by sounding their horn loudly all hours...
Read moreAs we drove elsewhere to camp off grid we needed to empty our tanks. I have used alot of KOAs to do this very thing, most charge between $10-$20 for this service. I was in a hurry to get to my destination and after the person on the phone quoted $20 I thought this would be the esiest option for me. The person on the phone did say I would only have enough water to wash my hose out with and that the water was non-potable. Again I was in a hurry and said that would be fine.
Once onsite the overall location looked fine with an semi attentive front desk and what seemed to be a short order kitchen within the office. I was charged $25 to dump and told to follow a man in a golf cart. Before I walked out the lady behind the desk did tell me the water was non-potable. The golf cart gave me a very nice tour of the campground as the dump is in a remote-ish location compared to the office. Golf cart guy again mentioned that the water was non-potable.
As I set up to dump I was glad my camper is higher than most as the pitch to the clean out was alomost uphill. while dumping my black tank I saw it was draining much slower than normal and hooked the hose next to the clean out into my black tank flush valve to try to help loosen what I thought to be a clog. A few moments later some man came out of his camper with two dogs in tow and started yelling at me for having the water hooked up to my camper. Since he was not in any type of uniform I was confused as to who this was and why he was yelling at me. After a few moments I realized he must have been the person I talked to on the phone eariler in the day as he reminded me of our conversation about only being provided enough water to rinse my drain hose.
As I began to appoligize for not remembering until he mention it the tension was resolved and he did appoligize for yelling at me. Honestly it was my fault so no issue other than it would have been nice to be reminded about the no water issue at the counter.
Overall I dont have a positive or truely negative view of this place other than I felt taken for $25 when not being provided a full service dump.
I am doubtful that I will ever stop at this location again to give them any business, which is unfortunate as I drive by this location with trailer attached about 10-12 times a year, and the location would have been a easy...
Read moreThis review is not on the campground but regarding staff. We didn't stay at this KOA. We had made reservations the same day to stay at this KOA and traffic stops caused our arrival time to be about 2 hours later than we would have arrived, now arriving around 9:30-10pm. We were tired and exhausted so we found a KOA much closer. I called this KOA to cancel our reservation. Maria, the night manager is who I spoke with. Giving my name and reservation number she could not find me in the system. I was staring at an email, with the KOA name and location, with a confirmation number and her solution was to call another KOA because maybe they had our reservation. She just kept saying "you're not in the system, you don't have a reservation here there is nothing I can do." Well I was totally perplexed because I had a credit card that was charged and a confirmation email. Plus I'm not sure how calling another KOA that I didn't have a reservation with was going to solve anything. And I was right. It didn't solve a thing. So, we call this KOA back again, Maria insists she can't find our reservation, continuing to tell us there is nothing she can do and then finally, discovers that they had already checked us in, though we hadn't even arrived. Mystery solved but when we asked to cancel our reservation, we were told we would lose our deposit because it was not within the 48 hours. We have camped with KOA for years. We are Gold Valu Kard Members and have had other KOAs refund our deposit. We weren't asking for hundreds of dollars back. It was a $50 deposit in a park that had plenty of vacancies so they weren't turning away business because our site was tied up. Maria would not refund our deposit. In fact, she became slightly rude when we told her we would dispute the charges. Her response? "Good luck with that" and promptly hung up on us.
Moral of the story? You never know who is on the other end of the phone. A small favor to pleasant and non-rude customers can go a long way. My husband and I own a national RV Travel magazine and are always looking for good campgrounds to give great write ups on. Sadly this one missed the mark and won't be making a cameo in any of our...
