Just came back after celebrating a 50th birthday with about 20 family and friends in attendance. I had 2 wonderful, restful days here after the main party. Even the woodpeckers were respectful of the morning after and the mountain quiet - almost. First-the cabin. I had a duplex cabin that is perfect for 2 adults and a small child, never even heard the family next door. It had both an air conditioner, wood burning stove (I didn't need either) along with a completely furnished kitchen, refer, sitting area, and a quality queen size bed and bathroom/shower. The entire cabin has been updated recently, all new facilities, walls, floors, WiFi etc. Other cabins were available for 2 to 20 people along with RV's. Second - the surrounding area. The web site pictures seem like they were taken from the front porch while having a cup of coffee. The view of Lake Henshaw was wonderful, there many pine, maple and oak trees along the road and up in the hills. There are a couple of Casino's close by (not sure how far, not my interest) along with Lake Henshaw, Julian, Santa Ysabel communities. There were several parties staying over the Labor Day Holiday but you couldn't hear any loud parties or such, even with the band at Josie's playing at the bottom of the hill. The 30 second wrap up - About 2/3 hours from Orange County or San Diego. In the trees, in the mountains. I recommended this as a great get-away. Final comment - I...

The view here is incomparable to any other you will get in the surrounding area. You can see the name of the wind as it passed amongst the grass by the lake. You will see almost ever bird species available to the local area. The traffic is non-existent along the main causeway, the most that will wake you is the birds in the morning.

The site is WELL maintained, I had a chance to talk with the owner. They have made huge improvements, and are continuing to make more with allowances to the land, and nature.

Don't be surprised if you see more of the feline local wild life, that kind of the case out here. Best you can do is cause a ruckus and scare them away, and they skidaddle quick.

Bobby and David are two of the best souls you can meet, and their generosity is even greater. I stayed at this site a week or so again, and have done so again today.

Book today and you'll never regret booking another day, or the next.

Share a draft with your neighbors too if they're partial, good folks all around.

100/10

Also visit the dispensary on the local tribe, it is VERY strong. Be mindful of your driving and...

This is what camping should always be like!

This place is amazing! The entire experience has left me wanting to come back and do it all over again! From the moment we entered the campground it was perfect. The grounds are very well cared for, and Bobby, person onsite is completely helpful. We ran into car trouble and I promise you, it was like a walk in the park from the help we received as we enjoyed our camping experience. The views are breathtaking, the bathroom is cleaner than every place we’ve ever camped at (including state run campground). Our site was private and quiet. We walked up to the Perch and the view took our breath away! Josie’s hideaway might have bikers, but it’s a cool and welcoming spot! The drinks are crazy good and although it’s bar food, when hungry, it’s just what you need to finish off a “ no cook” camp night. I did not want to leave this lovely campground , so I did the next best thing; I rebooked for another weekend, and invited friends. I only wrote this review because it’s nice to tell others, but I truly wish I could keep it a secret all...

What a fantastic experience! I stayed in cabin #2 the Eagle Perch. I suggest having an all wheel drive vehicle. It is steep but worth it for the views. I fly into San Diego then go to Costco to bring all I need to cook for the week. Bobby the caretaker was so fantastic. He replied instantly to all my questions. I had never been in a cabin in California so I had a lot of questions. I like to cook all my meals and was so happy to have a huge fridge with freezer. The kitchen was well stocked with all the cooking pots and utensils I needed. The guys I was with really enjoyed the coffee maker. The gas stove was fantastic. I also loved that I could buy wood on site for the fireplace. That saved us from the chilly and rainy weather. So cozy. The whole campground was fun to explore with fantastic views when you walk up the hill to a platform that they built. I loved hearing the cows mooing in the morning and all the beautiful birds!!! I really felt so sad leaving. It felt like a home away from home. Can’t wait to come back! Thank you so much for such wonderful memories.
