I can recommend Loon Lodge for people seeking a quiet laid back experience, with pleasant comfortable rooms. The lodge has a large restaurant and a small pub. We were never bothered by noise, and both places generally closed up by about 9 pm.|The room was clean and nicely decorated without being too fru-fru. I appreciated the rack of hooks outside of the bathroom for hanging coats, light bags, or whatever. However, it would be nice to have 1-2 hooks in the bathroom, as many people have toiletry bags that hang. Likewise, as this (and many) hotels offer the option to not have towels replaced daily, it would be nice if there were more places to hang wet towels.|The lodge has a nice dock/float, small beach, and a somewhat grand set of stairs leading across a large lawn down to the lake. All nice. There was nothing much that 'invited' guests to explore or use this lovely area. In summer, some of the view from rooms and restaurant may be impeded by trees that could use pruning. While there is a deck of sorts, its primary purpose is for outdoor dining when the weather is suitable, and not outfitted for hotel guests.|The lobby equally serves restaurant and hotel guests. Initially, it looked like a nice place to read a book on one of its lodge-look couches. However, piped-in semi-upbeat music is always playing. Also, one day, a meeting between a wedding planner and couple was taking place in the same area.|The lodge provides a simple morning snack of Keurig coffee or tea, and a bakery-style boxed muffin with your room name on it. It was ok but nothing to write home about.|The pub was pleasant, and seemed to have locals as well as guests, with a friendly, laid back vibe. The pub menu is small but adequate and the food and drinks, and service was fine.|Be aware that the lodge is about a mile from the village, and everything in the village closes up by 9 pm. Likewise, a grocery store that is about a quarter mile from the lodge also closes at 8 or 9. Otherwise, there is nothing within walking distance, which is not a complaint, just an FYI. The village is a quick straight shot by car. In August, on a weekday and weekend, we never felt it was overcrowded, and never had a...
Read moreWe arrived on a Sunday and as the restaurant was closed, the lodge was closed with no info provided about our check in to the Pickman House annex. Three phone calls later we got the code for our room. This was very stressful on a late afternoon. Upon check out, there was no one around either, although the plow guy shoveled the steps and did a quick plow of the parking area, which were appreciated. ||This is very different from our last arrival - on a Wednesday - when we arrived there was a fire in the fireplace in the main lodge, muffins in the morning, and a staffed reception desk. We also had delicious dinners in the restaurant. I would NOT recommend staying here when the restaurant is closed due to the total lack of services. ||The room itself was lovely. We stayed in the Pickman House - Chalet room. A view of the lake, comfortable accommodations. The heat was not quite adequate, but I had a sleeping bag in the car which we used on the bed. It was quite cold outside. The bed appears to be new and is an all foam mattress and is medium soft in firmness. The shower had plenty of hot water and the spray from the shower head was strong and invigorating. The room was clean with lovely decorating touches and a mini fridge with a separate freezer allowing for the purchase of ice cream at the IGA. We skied Saddleback and the access road is very close...
Read moreThis review is for the restaurant for dinner. Had reserved our two top weeks in advance, wanting to sit outside on the deck on a warm evening. We were there earlier than most at 5:30 pm on a Wednesday, which was not a busy time. Was lead to an inside back corner table. When I asked why we could not sit outside (it was empty out there) I was told "All tables on the deck are reserved". I did mention I had reserved weeks in advance and was rewarded with an indifferent shrug and no explanation. Large family was seated next door in the other room, but did not police their children who were loud and uncontrolled the whole time. Limited wine list for Sauvignon Blanc...and other varietals, but did find an off brand that passable. My Tuna was poor quality and way over seasoned. Only redeeming part of the evening was husbands very excellent steak. Very expensive and all "ala carte". Upon leaving an hour and a half later, I peeked into the outside deck which was still empty except for one couple. Obviously...
