Starting and ending our day with this beautiful view at Rapid City RV Park and Campground has made our South Dakota experience extra special! Our first day of exploring was so much fun. The Needles Highway was beautiful and it was so neat to see Mount Rushmore in person! We can’t wait to check out Badlands tomorrow! #Hosted #RVLife #SouthDakota #SouthDakotaRVParks #MountRushmore #CrazyHorse #NeedlesHighway #NeedlesEyeTunnel #RVKids

Overall it’s a nice place to use as a base camp while doing all of the tourist stuff in the area. Although it’s not a resort type RV park, it does have pretty good amenities. The bathrooms are clean and spacious and the fitness room has enough stuff to fill your needs for a few days. I read through the other reviews and I wanted to comment on a few things people mentioned. (I won’t comment on the owners responses, even though I found them pretty amusing) The sites are pretty tight, but they are completely manageable. We had a gentleman meet us at the spot on a golf cart and he was extremely friendly and helped guide us into the spot and made sure we cleared a nearby tree. The spots are pretty level. The whole campground is on a hill, but it is terraced and each individual site is pretty level. The right side was about an inch and a half lower than the left side. Which is well within what I would call acceptable and normal for a gravel site. Which is why we always carry some leveling blocks. Although the sites were small, there was still room to put all the slides out and the awnings. Some reviews mentioned the great view, and it would be great as long as there wasn’t someone camping in the spot downhill from you, or the one downhill from that. Even a small camper will block your view. Downhill faces almost due east, so we sat our camp chairs in the middle of the drive in order to watch the sunrise. Our picnic table was a little rough, and there was Some rot on the end of it. Most other picnic tables looked to be in better condition, and some looked to be new. It appears they’re replacing a few at a time as they get to the end of their life. Our fifth wheel is 35 feet long, and in order to make sure the slides could open without coming into contact with a tree or the utilities pedestal we had to be kind of far forward in the site, which wasn’t really an issue at all and I’m only mentioning it because we weren’t able to park our truck at the site because there wasn’t enough room in front or behind the fifth wheel. However, there’s tons of parking at the top of the hill. We didn’t really see an issue with parking the truck up there even though we were almost at the bottom of the hill. There wasn’t a fire ring at the campsite, which wasn’t a big deal to us. I did see some sites had portable style fire pits, and some were there after people had left, so the office may have given them out if we had asked. We didn’t intend to have a fire while we were there, so I never inquired about it. The pool and pool area were nice and looked well-kept. Overall the campground was clean and in good shape. The only thing about our stay over the few days was the interaction with the staff at check-in. I’m not sure if she was having a bad day or what, but she just seemed annoyed to have to be dealing with us. She was very short with her answers and had a tone with us right off the bat even though my wife was being extremely friendly. Maybe she just doesn’t like people with a happy, bubbly type of personality, but I would think that someone who has to deal with people all day would be able to at least try to be a bit more pleasant with their guests. It was just a weird interaction and made me a little worried about what the rest of the stay would be like, but then we interacted with the gentlemen guiding us into our site and he was over the top friendly, So that made up for the office staff not being very personable. I think if I was going to be in the area for an extended time and wanted a little more space away from people and a bit more creature comforts I would seek out a resort style RV park, but because we were in the area to do sightseeing, this campground fit all of our needs. Overall it was a great stay.

I am hesitant to write a review after seeing the way previous negative reviews are responded to. So let me start off by saying, I have stayed at dozens and dozens of RV parks and campgrounds all over this country. I definitely don't need fancy. The good - the owner gentleman (I'm assuming Tom based on replies he made) was a total gem. He was perpetually friendly and cheery and helpful. I also saw him answer the phone so I don't know why he says in one of his replies that he doesn't. So I was beyond shocked to see the way he speaks in his online replies. Every interaction I had with him in person I came back telling my family how wonderful he was. The camp store looked nice and the selection of children's books was great. Portable campfire pits were available and delivered to site upon request. Laundry room had 6 washers and 6 dryers that all looked new and were large capacity. The laundry room looks like is maybe having work done. Water pressure was decent in our rv even though in many RV parks it's not. Centrally located. The bad - The wife was visibly stressed out and irritated. The one interaction I had with her she was unpleasant and was snapping at her husband. The bathroom is horrid. As I mentioned, I don't need fancy. Just clean. And "normal" camping dirt, bugs, that's fine. However, mildew and filth really ruins a campground for me. The toilet and sink area was fine. The bathroom is oddly large. There are 3 normal shower stalls and all 3 had so much mold and mildew and smelled awful like urine or sewage mixed with mildew. The shower heads were also caked with build-up and filth. There is one "handicap" shower stall. The shower head in there is fine. It is a very small shower with a normal door that when shut makes the room almost completely dark. One night I had my kids shower in there and I stood with door open and handed them stuff so they could have some light. Couldn't get a photo of it before leaving bc was locked when I tried. The playground is very unsafe. There is broken wood. Screws sticking out. The whole thing is loose and wobbly. I didn't feel ok letting my kids play on it. (And I'm not an overprotective mom when it comes to playground equipment.) They also have a very weird policy regarding animal poop. See attached photo. Signs in bathroom also indicate they have a problem with someone dumping kitty litter in toilets. Our site was not long enough to fit our rig plus a tow without unhooking even though was a pull through. Hook ups are in back left corner of site instead of on side like most rv parks. Much of the campground indicates age and disrepair (picnic tables peeling, splintering and rotting along with everything else I mentioned.) But some things look nice. For example, outside of buildings looks freshly painted, there is some potted flowers, camp store. For me, a clean, basic campground is all I need. It would be better to not advertise a playground and get rid of playset than to keep it the way it is. Overall, we would not stay here again. Although after this review, the gentleman owner probably wouldn't want us to anyway. Which is a bummer bc he is SO nice in person. If you just need a place to park and not a place to shower and kids to play, location and price are fine. *It's shocking to me that the owner would call me 2 faced in his reply, esp after I said how kind he was in person. I did not address the bathrooms or other problems while on site bc the issues run too deep and would not have been rectified during my short stay. Photos speak clearly of the condition of facilities.

This RV park was not for us. The sites are extremely small and tight. There was no way we could have parked our 5h wheel and truck and opened our slideouts. We felt pretty deceived. I'm sure most people, like us, arriving here have had a long day, week or + driving and to arrive somewhere that is not kid or pet friendly was very frustrating. The park is off a major highway with road noise and a 5 second sprint for a kid or dog to get hit. We honestly thought we arrived at a storage unit for RVs. We did not see the pool or other advertised amenities. The only reason we gave this site a 2 star the second lady we encountered was very nice and friendly and understanding we couldnt stay here. We were still charged almost a full nights staybfor not stayin . Slightly understandable but we certainly would have felt happier had we gotten a full refund less the $5 cancel fee. 2.this would be a great spot for someone who is parking their RV and leaving (with no dogs or kids) . It is in a good location to head to Mt Rushmore and other attractions in the same area.

I am downgrading our review to a 1 star. We gave an honest review. Reviews are written to help other people know if this is a good spot for them. They should be taken as a way to improve. However the response I received from the owner is inappropriate!

"Response from the owner an hour ago Where to start, hmm. The site you were assigned is 65' long and 22' wide, plenty of room for most. I measured the distance from our closest site, the highway is 150' away, from yours it's further. If your dog is out running without a 6' or shorter leash you would have been kicked out, we don't allow that, and if you can't control your children, if they run off from you, please learn how to parent better. We have 3 dog walks, very pet friendly. As far as the lady noticing you couldn't stay here, your wrong, she saw we didn't want you here and shipped you out. Hope you found somewhere that fit your family better."

I would highly recommend to stay far away from anyone that treats their...
