We planned a family getaway and Blisswood Resort was the perfect location. There were 12 adults and one 5 year old. We rented the entire property. The lodge is spacious, with a well stocked kitchen. Dana makes sure you have everything you need. This was the best stocked rental that we've ever stayed at, by far! Two large refrigerators held all our groceries, and there was another in the basement too. There were two dishwashers also. There are sleeper sofas in the den on the main floor. That's where our 96 year old mom stayed with a caregiver. There is a step up, but she maneuvered just fine with a little assistance. We brought a bedside commode for nighttime use. Then we moved it to a nearby bathroom to "raise" the toilet and provide handles. The upstairs has three lovely bedrooms with their own spacious bathrooms. They each have their own A/C units, but we often opened windows for fresh evening air. There's a large room that we used for meals and games. Great books and magazines are scattered throughout the building. And there was plenty of room to curl up with a good book and some tea. Smaller cabins held the rest of our family. They were also well stocked and furnished nicely. Each cabin has it's own fire ring and picnic tables. We had fires every day and evening and never ran out of wood. There's a nice game room across the street. It's full of DVDs, games, puzzles, and a pool table, shuffleboard, foosball, and dartboard. I cannot emphasize enough how attentive Dana is. She communicated with us before and during our event. She put a vase of fresh flowers with a welcome note in each cabin. We finally met her and her husband just before checking out, when she brought us our Blisswood merchandise that we purchased online during our stay. We had perfect weather, including one rainy day. They even provided umbrellas that we used that day. Oh, and the sunsets are spectacular. I would recommend Blisswood Resort 1,000%, and only hope that it is available the next time we...
Read moreWe recently stayed at the Blisswood Cottage the "Perch" high on the bluff which was perfect for the two of us. Honestly, upon arrival the sounds, beauty and fresh air put me in a sleep trance for two hours.
The decor and details of the cottage make one feel like you are in a 5 star hotel but quaint and intimate. We took advantage of the firepit every night amidst the stars and clouds as it was always a beautiful scene regardless of the weather. We had a little bit of everything and embraced it. The kitchen is petite and can accomodate even the finest chef. We grilled out every night except one and always finished with the smores of course by the firepit.
The cabin has everything you could think of. Candles, fire lighters, kindling for your indoor or outdoor fire, ample amount of firewood protected from weather and an extra cabin on the property with extra chairs, extra long skewers for marshmallows or hot dogs, and shorter skewers in the cabin. Nice towels and bathrobes for your stay that smelled so good.
Very close to Harbor Springs and the UP if you want to venture out. We so enjoyed our stay here in the tunnel of trees and the property and grounds is so incredible you won't want to leave. My husband said it was an "Old American Treasure". I agree. Even a tiny chapel on the property. The trilium was still blooming in a State Park which was a treat if you are so lucky to be there when blooming.
Dana communicated with us from the time we booked our stay and came to introduce herself and gave us the history and more information on the property. Lots of history and culture here and what a gem. Shhhhhhh...... Want to keep it a secret. LOL.
The bed was one of the most comfortable beds with luxury bedding and blankets that smelled amazing. Dana, can you share in a private message to me what it is?
Asparagus, (Yes, Wild asparagus ) see photo, eagles, birds and roaring waves greet you here as you get back to nature. Bring your binoculars, we forgot.

Read moreWhat a great weekend we had at Blisswood Resort. We stayed in the Perch cabin and it was amazing. The view from the dining table looked out over Little Traverse Bay on Lake Michigan, and since it faces west, the sunsets were awe inspiring in their beauty. The living room had a beautiful fireplace that we put to good use every night. The cabin is really well stocked with what we needed to cook when we wanted to. We did not get a chance to use the outside fire pit, but it has two chairs facing west to look out over the bay, so I can only imagine how enjoyable an evening around the fire could be. The owner, Dana, was very easy to get in touch with when we needed something. She made sure to check on us via text, and even stopped by to make sure she got to know us. We never got to meet her husband, Adam, but I am sure he is just as nice and accommodating. The location in the Tunnel of Trees means that the views driving in are incredible. And it is only 20 minutes to Harbor Springs, 40 minutes to Petosky, 35 minutes to Mackinaw City, and about 40 minutes to Cheboygan; talk about being in the middle of everything. And the drives to those locations are through the beautiful Michigan northern forest. I highly recommend making a trip to Blisswood Resort. I have traveled to a lot of places in Michigan, but this area, hands down, is the prettiest and most inspiring. And the charm and ambiance of Blisswood definitely fits the area's beauty and heritage. We are already planning a return visit to Blisswood. ...
