The park was easy to find. It is located about 8 miles off of Rt 16 on Old River Road. There is pavement all the way until you arrive at the park. Signage is adequate. Check in was efficient and friendly. We were escorted to our site. The rules are fairly basic. The interior roads are a mix of pavement, some gravel but mostly sandy dirt. And before I go any further. If you are anticipating this place to be a neat, well groomed resort, then this is not for you.
Our site, 33, was a dirt pull through that was plenty long enough for our Coach and Towed. Services (30/50 amp, water, sewer and cable) were to the left side but the power pedestal said we were in site 208. The post that supported the water had a small 33 attached. There is a mish mosh of cable connections none of which worked. And while on the subject of cable and wiring, there is loose wires in many places including one that was partially hidden across the grass near the lower shower building that I tripped on. Distancing is very close for a rural park. Each site has an old table but NO fire pit or patio. Our site was flat but covered in cigarette buts, leaves, trash, and fallen bits of branches. No attempt was made to make the site presentable prior to our arrival. We cleaned it ourselves. Our first impression of the park was that it was dump and we had booked the wrong park given all of the raving reviews we saw. We weren’t far off.
This park does have many amenities that are required to be a “resort”. There is a pool (closed during our stay), small rec room/arcade, laundry facilities, basket ball hoop, playground, fishing, boat launch, a well stocked store etc. They do require their guest’s units to be factory built and not ragged looking (No converted busses or survival trailers please). Incredible since the place is a dump. The park is divided into two sections. The lower section is prone to flooding but is much quieter than the upper. The upper is close to a busy road and it does get quite loud but neither has any decent sites. There are a few in the upper with a concrete pad (just wide enough for the rig) but no patio or grass to enjoy an outdoor experience. It would be better if the concrete was used as a patio and have a dirt pad. Many sites are buddy and very close so there is no privacy at all.
The park included wifi worked somewhat well for basic browsing and e mail on occasion. But, for the most part, it was even difficult just to log on. Clearly some users were streaming and no attempt was made to curtail this use. Our Verizon Cell showed barely one bar thus we could not use our phone as a hot spot. If you want or need wifi this place is not for you. The cable TV was inoperable because we were told the supply source was damaged as a result of an automobile accident. We did find some OTA channels. Satellite might be difficult in many areas. We did not use the washrooms or showers but we checked and found them up to date and clean as was the laundry.
With a lot of TLC, landscaping, planting of shrubs and grass, a lot of gravel and just taking some pride of ownership, this park could become into a more pleasant place to hang one’s hat and deserve the resort label.
There are no restaurants or stores within easy walking distance but just a short drive away you can find food, shopping and convenience stores etc. We needed to be at this park for 10 days and found that after four we really wanted to leave. There has never been an attempt to beautify the place and it became hard to look at. If you are looking for a base to use visiting Savannah’s points of interest that’s about all it is good for. We paid $35.00 per night (weekly) then the normal rate of $47.10 per night inc GS discount after that. We will never be back even for...
Read moreWe booked here by mistake. 100% my fault. Our friends were coming up from Florida and we got our signals crossed and I chose this campground. Again my mistake 100%. Their no refund policy was clear when booking. I get it. You can’t rent spaces that are blocked off. But the campground is not full. My same type space can be booked online as I type review.
To their credit they did offer us a credit for my second night. Meaning they make us stay one night since “we are already here” as they put it and then they would let us postpone our second night to some other time.
Here’s my ultimate problem with the entire property: it is way overpriced, like maybe twice what it’s worth.
The place is run down and just ragged out. Okay so the new owners are going to reply and say they are renovating blah blah blah. That sounds good but they have owned it for almost a year now. The dog park is a mud pit or a sand pit depending on when it last rained. The spaces are so small when I walked my dog, the leash allowed him to get under the RV beside us before I even got out the door.
Yes the trees are great. The laundry facility was plenty sufficient. Internet isn’t too bad and hookups seem fine so far. Sooooo…
If we had paid $45, none of this would have been an issue. My problem is the place we really wanted to stay is simply amazing and in the same price range (about $10-15 more). Again my mistake.
I get that I can’t get a refund since that’s the policy. And I own my mistake in booking here. I talked to three different people here at the campground and with the corporate office and they were all plenty nice but very clear that they don’t give refunds. They sounded very well scripted and trained on telling people they are keeping your money.
Beware of the song and dance about renovating. There is very little “new” anything here. Everything is tired. Everything.
The final kicker for us was we figured since we’re stuck here we might as well make the most of it and enjoy tonight by the firepit. In the picture is the selection of firewood and the lady at the front desk said they have been low for several days but the manager hasn’t placed an order yet. That in a nutshell sums up our overall experience here. Everything is about the future. It’s going to be nice one day. They’re going to have firewood one day. The new section is going to blah blah blah one day.
We won’t be back simply because if it’s overpriced now, it will be way overpriced in the future when it is what they’re claiming it will be. If we had stopped in for the night to rest before continuing our journey we would be plenty happy with it at $50 but to stay here for multiple days in super tight spaces with a gate code that is useless because the gate is broken and the dogs are dirty and there’s one bundle of firewood for the entire weekend - at the price we paid $185 for two nights), no thanks. Sadly I don’t even want a park credit for a future stay, we wouldn’t be back to use it.
Our mistake. I own it. But just want to pass on what we saw in case it helps others.
(Not looking for a response from corporate, I already read the other reviews to know what you’re going to say).
Edit: I never told them the name of the campground we were hoping to stay in but the bigger point I am making is the campground does not warrant the price. I’d like to see their corporate response to that one from someone who has been here. I’m a photographer if you want me to elaborate with pictures and video I’ll be happy to.I run a Facebook group called RVtography and I also do video reviews of positive experiences on my Facebook page with 60,000 followers. I have never posted a negative review. ...
Read moreMy biggest regret is that I didn't read the reviews before booking. I'm usually very tolerant of small issues and I feel that hospitality goes a long way. Unfortunately, the issues weren't small and the hospitality was non-existent.
But when we arrived at Spacious Skies RV park in Savannah we were made to feel unwelcome from the very beginning. We arrived at 11:15 am and were told we could only enter the park after 12:00pm after paying a $10 early check in fee. There were several empty sites but we were refused entry and told to go away and come back after noon.
Our site #67 was a very small dirt and gravel spot just steps away from a busy highway. Honestly, we would have been better off at an interstate rest area.
This is consistent with some of the reviews I've seen on their own website. Here's a summary of what I found:
REVIEWS Unreasonable refund policies. Little or no flexibility for early or late check-ins Some guests refused check-in after 8pm, even in cases out of their control, such as heavy traffic. Don't bother calling, they offer no exceptions. Excessive fees and rules Claims of racism No sleeping in hammocks, even on a freestanding frame Small, dirty and noisy sites too close to the highway. *Cockroaches *Turned away because RVs were not "factory made" *Dirty facilities.
POLICIES AND FEES: No check-in before noon, or after 8pm. (This is enforced, but not on the agreement you must docusign when you book) For an extra fee ($10?) you can "lock-in" your chosen site. $10 fee for guests who may wish to visit. $10 fee for fishing. $25 fee per pet per reservation Retractable leashes MUST be less than 6 feet in length. Pets must have a tag on their collar with the owner's phone number. Golf carts (electric only) must be registered and inspected. Factory made golf carts only. Prohibited Items: include, but are not limited to, flags, stickers, garden displays or site decor that are political in nature... Apparently, there are some similar restrictions on speech. But they do encourage " ...flags, stickers, garden displays or site decor that are meant to celebrate personal identity in a non-aggressive manner." When you sign the agreement, you're also agreeing to allow them to use your photo in their advertisements.
NOTE: I was told that "some of these policies are not really enforced." Some are enforced without exception. Some are published, some are not. It's up to you to sort that our.
As long as they can extract as much money from you as possible, they will tolerate your presence.
Due to their draconian refund policies, we wound up forfeiting all of the money we paid. In the end I don't regret it. We went about a mile down the road to Creekfire RV park where we were warmly greeted and immediately given a last-minute reservation for a lakeside spot with a wonderful view. I wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy all of their amenities, such a pool with a lazy river and a lakeside restaurant. There's also a KOA in Richmond Hill just a few miles to the south with friendly staff, lakeside sites and several...
