One day I could leave this place 5 stars and the next it would be 1... This was our Second stay at Deer Ridge. We come to town for the UKC Autumn Oaks coonhunt every Labor Day weekend. Last year we thought we had hit the jackpot. They were very accommodating and welcoming. They only seem to place camper every other site to ensure you have plenty of room. We loved the extra space and got it again this trip! However, from the moment we arrived this year, it was made known that Pat was not a fan of the hunters or the hounds. There were underhanded comments made to us and other hunters that they don't like the noise the hounds make... I never heard a peep out of any of the hounds, but the ankle biters were barking non stop at a couple of campers. According to Pat, some of the diesel trucks were too loud... I mean, diesel trucks are loud by nature but she didn't want them "coming and going at all hours of the night while they were hunting".... My bedroom window was right next to the road in the campground and I never heard a thing. Honestly, Scott is pretty laid back and very helpful, but Pat will ride around on the golf cart, find things to complain about, then send poor Scott to do her dirty work. Oh, and then there's Pats unwritten rule of 2 dogs only.... Notice I said unwritten. It's not listed anywhere on their paperwork or website yet we were told at check in after we travelled 6 1/2 hours from home with 5 dogs. So we spent the entire weekend walking on egg shells and only having 1 or two out at a time. This place is beautiful and has great potential but I would not call it "pet friendly" and the constant changing rules are ridiculous. If people aren't causing trouble, quit riding around looking for trouble! We won't be back here next year. I'll look for somewhere more coonhunter friendly. Autumn Oaks brings millions in revenue to Richmond but Deer Ridge doesn't...
Read moreCalled to make reservations. Told the owner lady we had one trailer with 2 adults and one trailer with one adult and wanted to put a tent on one of the sites with 2 adults staying in it. She said no problem I will just charge u for the one extra adult. When we arrived she said she had thought about it and we will have to pay for a third site for the tent. She said she didnt have a site next to the other two but we could still put up the tent on one of the first two sites. So we had to pay an extra $100 for a site we never used. The tent never used any electricity, water, or sewer so why did we have to pay $100 instead of the original extra person price. Also when we were checking in she says the sign on pool states hours are from 9am to 10 pm but they always lock the gates at 9pm instead of 10pm. We were going to go swimming on Sunday morning before we had to pack up and leave at the very early check out time of noon, but as we drove away at noon the pool gates were still locked so no morning swim. The entire weekend the owners would drive around and stare at every move you made as though you were stealing something or breaking one of there many rules. On the plus side the man owner seemed much more relaxed and pleasant to deal with.we would love to come back it is a beautiful campground and close to home but we dont want to be stared at all weekend or pay that ridiculous prices for a site we...
Read moreTo get a Passport America rate you had to take a back in site. We wanted a pull thru so we had to use the Good Sam discount and paid $48 per night for a FHU, level, gravel site. Lots of activities available including micro golf and a pool but we were only staying overnight so we didn't check any of them out. The roads are narrow, curvy, and a bit hilly so keep that in mind if you're in a really big rig. We are pulling a 27' travel trailer so we had no issues. Our pull thru site was completely shaded which was a major blessing since it's been so hot outside. It had only 30 amp service, which worked fine for us, though we prefer to use 50 amp service when we're using our air conditioner. The campground appears to have a lot of permanent residents so there were some older trailers and some sites were a little run down, but I've really come expect that nowadays. The owners were very nice and the place is buried in trees, both huge pluses. The CG was convenient to I70 but far enough off the road that it wasn't too noticeable. We didn't use the bath house but did take a peek: it was clean, but much older. One really cool thing is the carved art created from broken trees - amazing. We would definitely stay here again when passing...
