I want to write this review to offer advice to anyone also staying at the Maybelle. We booked this room because it was so affordable, but it did come with the warning that there was no private bathroom. My husband and I are low-key travelers, so we're okay with that. We've stayed at other guest houses in the past where that is the case, and you typically share a full bathroom with others in the hallway. Here, unless you know the guests across the hall, however, there is no shower for you in the building. There is a "powder room", as they indicate, downstairs for you to use. I was being presumptuous, I suppose, but I thought it could have been clearer there is no shower. We checked in "late" (around 6:30 PM) so there was no one to greet us. They left an envelope in the mailbox of the Boat House with instructions. We had to call an after-hour phone line to find out that we could use the showers at the marina (and he had to provide the key code). I think this should all be way clearer.
Other suggestions are to put a fan in the Maybelle, as it was extremely stuffy and hot in our room, even though it was a milder summer evening. It would also have been great if the kitchen was a bit more stocked with actual ground coffee or tea bags, and we wanted to light the fire one night but couldn't find any fire starter. Also, the TV wasn't logged into any streaming service even though they said it was. This was fine because we wanted to unplug anyway, but this could be fixed for someone else.
Other than that, the stay was really cute and cozy. We loved the decor, the free bikes, the location, the beach out back with free kayaks, and the breakfast. We'd definitely come back but would probably upgrade to a nicer room. Just wanted to offer this as an FYI for...
Read moreMy husband and I booked a room last minute for our 15th anniversary and we were delighted with our stay.
Check in was easy and the man who greeted us was very nice and knowledgeable
The room: The room we stayed in (the afterdeck) was VERY clean, well appointed with tasteful nautical decor, soft relaxing colors, comfortable bed. I was so happy to see a larger than normal hotel fridge in the room. as well. The view was spectacular.
Property: the property is really beautiful and I love that you are free to wonder, use the amenities at not only this property, but their other properties as well. We enjoyed our morning coffee sitting on the dock on the Adirondack chairs. It is quiet and peaceful.
Food: The great room is pretty awesome. There is definitely a B&B feel to this hotel... the great room has coffee 24/7 and the brunch offered was above most continental breakfasts that you would typically find at hotels. the only thing that I was hoping to find and didn't was an ice machine.
There are restaurants on site... we only tried The Ark and Dove and this is not a place that I would recommend at all..We were VERY disappointed in the quantity and quality of the food especially with how high their price point is.
Overall, if you are looking for a romantic getaway in a peaceful, clean, lovely hotel , I...
Read moreWe are a couple that travels the entire country trying different locations on a regular basis, and for this trip and location We had the Forecastle Room. Cute upon arrival, we arrived late at night. We chose this location for some peace and quiet and to catch up on sleep and be away from the stress of life. We were awoken at the crack of dawn by the sun in our faces as the window covering were not efficient. When we decided to use the jacuzzi tub, the jets blew out dirt as well as a silk rose petal. Plus, it is 2 inches from the toilet. We decided from that moment on to not use the tub. The shower was tiny and difficult. The entire bathroom needs updating. The bed skirt we noticed right away when we had proper lighting a dark stain down it as if someone spilled coffee or something. The TV was Samsung TV, every channel takes time to load in between the show and commercials, plan on a 1 hour show being 2 hours. The loading circles that come across the TV become annoying after a few hours. The continental breakfast options were unappealing. Off Season, the closest restaurant is almost an hour away. Good luck with finding food delivery. We paid $149 night, I would have rather paid $89 for what it was...Cute place.... But....We are going to stick to the Hilton and Marriott...
