Just got back from a stay at Rockwood Marina and RV Resort in Rockwood, TN. We normally do state parks or recreation.gov places, but figured we'd give it a try because it was close to Knoxville and they were running a 25% off discount on three nights. They have a pool, an office/camp store, a cantina that's open Thurs-Sun and a laundry. They have a Marina with fuel, covered slips, etc., and they rent kayaks and golf carts, etc. Check in at 1 and out at 11. Staff is super friendly and attentive. We even got an email about potential bad weather and to be sure our awnings were in.
Be aware that there's not a lot of shade on the sites, so plan accordingly with awnings, umbrellas, etc., if that's important to you.
Be sure to get the directions to come in from 40 because a where Waze wants to take you they don't recommend.
There's a public boat ramp right next door at a public park, and there's cleats to tie up at the waterfront sites. Many are "buddy sites," so you can come with friends (one backs in, one drives front in if you want to face each other). Full hookups, fast wifi, they pick up your garbage every morning. Firepits, etc. The pool has a killer slide that both of us went down more than once (some people never grow up). We'll watch for another special and go back. it does cost $20 to lock a site, but we did and locked the one we wanted, which was worth it to us!
Watched sunsets and moonrise and both did not disappoint. We went to Roosevelt Scenic Overlook, which we really hope the locals will find a way to fix up and replace the fire tower with an observation deck because it's a beautiful untapped resource. Also took the short hike down to Ozone Falls (featured in the 1994 film Jungle Book). Will go to Piney Creek trailhead and Frozen Head if we come back and stay a bit longer for hiking. Got the Schnauzer out in the kayak and had a ball.
We'll watch for another special and hopefully get back there before it gets too cold and they...
Read moreI wish I could leave a 10 star rating since we absolutely love this park! The employees are so incredibly wonderful. They go the extra mile and make you feel at home. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming, especially with all of the events they put on. We stayed during Halloween and they had fun activities for the kids as well as trick or treating which was a total blast. They usually have something fun going on every weekend which is a plus!
The park itself is on Watts Bar lake and has such amazing views. We stayed in a pool side view but you can still see the lake from multiple directions which is nice. The park has been open for over a year but looks immaculate from the pool (which has a very cool slide) to the laundry area to the front office/cantina.
The maintenance crew is on a whole different level. The park is in such good shape and if there’s a rock out of place, don’t worry, it will be fixed within an hour. There’s also valet trash service which is super convenient and very much appreciated.
Another thing we love is their Cantina, which offers a nice selection. The food is good and they even offer complementary delivery to your RV site which is a huge plus.
You can rent bikes, golf carts, boats, kayaks and paddle boats which is great! We rented a golf cart for a day while we had family in town and it was perfect to drive around the park. They also have two separate areas with swings for the kids which our toddler enjoyed.
Overall, this place ROCKS (pun intended) and was the nicest and friendliest park we’ve ever been to! :) Highly recommend...
Read moreThis was our second trip to the Rockwood RV Park and Marina. It is located on a lovely peninsula that extends into Watts Bar Lake. Many of the sites are waterfront. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The bathhouse is the nicest one I have seen at any RV park we have visited.
The park has not been blessed with good weather, though, so the grass and trees are struggling to grow. I’m sure it will be beautiful within a few years and the trees will provide some much-needed shade.
My recommendations would be that each site be cleaned after each camper visits. Our patio needed to be at least swept off and possibly hosed off because of the dry mud.
The pool is large and inviting. Unfortunately, there is no monitoring of the slide. Rules are posted at the foot of the ladder, but I did not see anyone reading them. One day in particular, a couple of very overweight and inebriated people were using the slide and being generally disruptive. Otherwise, I think the slide would be a lot of fun for kids and adults, too.
We will definitely be back, and will hope for cooler weather. Lack of shade is a definite issue when the sun is...
