Great campsite with good amenities and access for all types of campers. Each site was paved and had stones carving out the area for setting up camp. The forest floor was blocked off with wooden posts as a barrier between us and the thick plants and bushes. It's next to the river, with a few access trails directly to the water. The area did have a decent amount of mosquitoes though. We stayed at site #14, which was pretty central. It connected to the site across unfortunately, but we had nice neighbors. While not a rowdy campground, it was not exactly quiet and peaceful. Lots of kids, families and friends gathering in groups and the close proximity of sites doesn't lend too much privacy. Still a fun campground that had free hot showers, running water, plenty of trash and places to dispose of waste water. A bundle of firewood was dry and affordable too. The campground host was friendly and helpful, plus they had brochures for waterfalls along HWY 138. Last but not least, I have T-Mobile and did not have service out here.

What a beautiful & serene campground. I hope & pray it doesn't get burned away, like all the other campgrounds, that surround it have. Little amphitheatre, a short walk to the water, horseshoe pits, lots of firewood to buy, (when & if we are allowed to have campfires again) super clean & tidy bathrooms, showers are not able to be used right now, showers are closed until further notice, this may be a Covid thing. The camp sites are very spacious & lots of parking. Due to the Jack fire, the campground may also be closed now. It was open on Tuesday & all spots had been reserved or were occupied. I can't wait for these forest fires to end, it all breaks my heart deeply. The loss of lives, homes, land & livelihoods is quite sad. This campground is on the top of my list to visit, once all is well. Bless the Firefighters, the Camp Hosts & Camper's to keep them all safe. I have also included some photos of the surrounding area that was burned previously, as well as smoke clouds from the current Jack Fire.

Absolutely beautiful campground. Small, private, yet with very clean sites, restrooms, and (free! Hot!) showers. I almost didn’t review because I don’t want to increase traffic to this gem of a spot. Cute swimming hole appropriate for kids with life jackets. The water is VERY cold so go on a hot weekend. You could not want for more on a camping trip. Don’t forget to grab the hiking and waterfall brochures on the back of the welcome billboard and do not miss the chance to trek up the road to Little Falls. It is magical. And for native plant nerds like me, there are red huckleberries, trailing blackberries, Oregon grape, and salal. But watch out for poison oak.

Susan Creek is a beautiful campground that deserves hosts that will treat the patrons with some dignity. I saw a 4 year old special needs girl chastised at a water faucet because she was confused as to how to turn it off. "Don,t you know what a drought is?" A sick, possibly rabid, or injured bat was laying hissing inches from a campsite during the day with 3 special needs children and a dog. Rather than safely removing the bat to a more appropriate place, "It is not our responsibility. This is a wilderness don't you know? All we can do is call a ranger." They let it crawl to another area where other children play and dogs and people walk. Another host fortunately removed it when asked. The condescending attitude made avoiding the host couple job one. "So, you find any more bats lately?" he later sarcastically asked the one who reported it. Obviously he does not understand how traumatic treatment for a rabies bite can be. After that we found him letting his dog pee in front of our campsite instead of taking it into the woods right across the pavement or behind his own site as we did. Check-in rules are confusing here. The official posted BLM sign rules indicates all sites check-out at 11:00 AM and reserved sites check-in at 1:00 PM.Non-reserve sites are on a first come first serve basis. Now a 1:00 PM check-in for all sites has been taped to the rules board. But a 1:00PM check-in even for first come first serve sites is confusing if the site has been sitting vacant for two hours. Conflict between multiple parties waiting for the "first come-first serve site" site has occurred. First come first serve sites should be able to be occupied anytime after the 11:00 AM checkout as posted in the official BLM rules. Another rule that is confusing is the requirement that all sites be occupied on the first night. Unfortunately, that rule is appears to be selectively enforced on non-reserved sites only, while many prime reserved sites sat empty for one two three days without forfeiture. If this was any motel the room would have been lost and rented to the next client. How nice for the hosts that the records show occupied but the hosts have no cleanup to do. And no penalty is paid for not occupying a site. After all, it is only $10.00 a night if you have a pass. Some rules are just arbitrarily made up by the hosts. For the forty years we have camped here we have recreationaly panned for gold at the river below the high water line. I let the hosts know what I was doing and the lady host said, "Absolutely not! That is not allowed." A call to the BLM district office proved otherwise. As host she could have said, "Let me check on that for you."

If you stay, just avoid ANY interaction with the...

This campground is a beautiful well kept campground. I have camped there many times but unfortunately this time my experience was terrible. I got into trouble five minutes after getting there just unloaded my two German shepherd and they wined a little excited long car ride and they heard the river and wanted to play. Unfortunately one of the managers came by and made me take my dogs home. If you would have just gave him a minute to get out of the car just settle down they would have been quiet he would never known they were there. We were inch off into the gravel with one of the cars we got yelled at twice for not being directly on the payment one inch off and we got into trouble. They were happy how many people came camping on the side it says you can have up to 12 people per site. We only had 17 people total for two sites. Everybody was respectful quiet we cleaned the campground and made it nice as when we got there. The Campos have always been very nice for some reason this trip was awful people that never camped there will never camp there because of it the campground's beautiful the camp host was awful. Nothing like going camping and being harassed the whole time. I hope the camp host was just having a bad weekend. But I won't be returning nor will any of my family and friends. Bad experience........ I gave the campground only two stars because of my experience. But campground is awesome I'd give it five with a better experience...
