My wife and I stayed in Houze 1 for three nights. Charming doesn't even do it justice, the house is so well appointed. Takes your mind to staying in a restored train car. It immediately feels comfortable, welcome. You want to be in there. |The "houses' are on a property with a large barn/workshop and lots of artistic and industrial pieces, interesting to walk and look through. Plenty of room to roam. The property itself is off of the main roads, such as they are, so there is very little traffic. It's quiet and really lets you get away from any rush. Also, it's just over an hour into Houston, if you have business there but want to be out of the city, as did we. |The view from the front deck of the "houze" is spectacular, looking over a green field with trees and a herd of cows that casually graze under the big sky. Everything about the view says "relax, stay awhile, sit," and they make it easy to do so with hammocks, adirondack chairs, fire pits... |Nigel runs the place, instantly likable guy, outdoorsy, hard working, but very interesting and very interested. He would visit with us and check on us but was never intrusive. He took a liking to our dog (they take dogs, btw) and brought him a couple of different toys to play with. Also invited us to drive out on some ranch land they were holding for sale across the road so Doggo could play fetch in one of the ponds. BIG fun for the Furball! |Our final night, there was a BIG storm. Lightning, torrential rain, 40-60 mph winds. The "Houze" didn't budge an inch in the winds. These things are well constructed! Impressive! We felt completely safe as we turned down the lights, sat on the sofa in front of the big window and watched the lightning for a couple of hours. What a show! ||Great stay, thank you Nigel for being so inviting. We'll...
Read moreWe rented the Farmhouze at the Flophouze Hotel. This was a very disappointing experience for us. We left immediately after check in because of the moldy/musty smell that aggravated my breathing right away. I couldn’t stay there. There was also a very large hornet in the living room that looked like it came out of the ceiling. There were many hornets out back near the carport. We found mouse droppings when I was looking for paper towels under the kitchen sink. The Host did not reply when we expressed issues. And when we canceled our trip did not refund us in a fair manner. Basically the house didn’t meet our expectations and the $600 refund for the $1700 trip was a joke considering we didn’t spend any more than a few minutes in the house. Basically he stole our money. The house is directly situated on a main country road and it doesn’t appear that way in photos. The photos feel misleading. It’s a high speed limit main country road and you can hear traffic noise from every room inside the house. The location also doesn’t feel safe to me as I was planning to stay on my own for a few nights when my daughter and husband were going to leave early. I wouldn’t have felt safe doing that. The house is decorated beautifully I will give it that. I couldn’t stay because of air quality (mold/musty) which I noticed immediately. The host was unreasonable and didn’t offer a refund that was fair given the fact we couldn’t stay. I’m very disappointed in the whole experience. Think twice about booking this property especially if you won’t be able to get to a new location quickly. For the price, I would have expected a luxury experience from the house itself...
Read moreContainers.Clouds.Cows Covid cabin fever was getting me down, so I was intrigued when I discovered a review of the Flophouze online. We booked a 2-night stay and headed out. We received an email with simple instructions for check in. We stayed in Container #1 which was ideal for 2 people. The containers have been completely renovated with everything you need. The kitchenette has a dorm-sized refrigerator and a toaster. There is an assortment of cutlery and basic kitchen tools. When's the last time you used a record player? We enjoyed the eclectic selection of music that was provided along with some cool coffee table books. We brought our cooler and stuff for breakfast and snacks. Next time, I will take advantage of the communal grill and smoker so we don't have to leave the property. Round Top is well-known for antiques shopping, however not a lot was open when we were there. That may be due to Covid or maybe things are open during the weekend, I'm not sure. But our goal was to just chillax on the property, so it wasn't an issue. One of my main concerns was the AC because Texas is hot, y'all. Not to worry, there are two ceiling mounted units as well as a ceiling fan in the bedroom. I was completely comfortable. I was completely in love with the shipping container pool. As a former Girl Scout, I impressed my husband by making a fire in the firepit. We made s'mores, drank wine and watched the cows come home (literally. They graze right in front of the containers!). There may have been some folks staying in the other containers but we never saw them. It was the perfect getaway and we're...
