We had camped there for years since the campground opened back in 1997 or so and it was always an enjoyable experience but as time went on the cleanliness of the place and the condition of the campsites and facilities had began to deteriorate rapidly. When LCRA was running it, they never put anything into it and by 2019 which was the last trip we took there before a 5 year hiatus people had really began to complain about the place... Fire pits were rusting away, there was a lot of overgrowth of brush and messy bathrooms were the norm...People were driving through and joining other campers and having loud parties for half the night and being disruptive in general. Raccoons were and feral cats were ransacking the trash cans every night and causing havoc with campers. The so called" waterfront sites" that they charged extra for were not really waterfront because you couldn't even see the lake because it was so overgrown and there was nothing but rat tunnels to go back and forth to the water's edge.|Almost every Sunday after the weekenders would leave the toilets were almost always plugged and overflowing and many times the cleanup crew would not arrive until Monday morning to take care of the mess. On one occasion we stayed at one of the cabins and it was full of mice...I'm not talking about just a mouse or two here and there, it was more like mice in every corner, in all the cabinets, found a nest in one of the dresser drawers...It was bad...|I heard many people complaining about the boat docks being in bad shape, the piers were falling apart, and many were saying "we used to stay here, and we still love the fishing here but now we just come for day trips".... ||FIVE YEARS LATER: I told my wife that we try for old times' sake just to go stay there and if it was as run down as it was back then we would not return. During this time RRM /VISTA had taken over and it was my understanding that they had put a lot of time and money into the place.|I saw some of the pictures of their improvements but WOW...they had done a really great job fixing the place up...New fire pits, a lot of debris and brush removed. Waterfront sites are actually waterfront and are now nicely green well mowed areas. A lot of the tangly brush on the outskirts of the campground and around the screen houses had been removed and turned into nice grass. The bathrooms and showers have been fixed up nicely and the full-time attendants monitor them closely and keep them clean and well maintained.|The piers are nice, the boat docks have new rubber bumper material, the cabins have been fixed up and repainted. There are now additional RV sites at Prairie Park as well. There are keypad gates now that are closed in the evening making it more secure than before. There is even a "honey bucket" service to come around and empty your RV tank for a $20.00. That's a big deal if you are staying for two weeks as we were. They are strict on their rules but they need to be because people do a lot of dumb things but also are very accommodating to help you with additional parking and answer questions and are genuinely caring for the place well...||The only downfall and this has nothing to do with RRM/ VISTA is that the place is badly overran with cast netters which can't be good for the lake's bass fishery especially during spawn time but this is a problem for LCRA and TPWD which needs to be seriously addressed.||Aside from that if you haven't tried staying there for a while, give it a try. You won't be disappointed. We will...

People who camp a lot like to scout a lot too. Many times, we like to see the facilities before booking so we know what to expect and pack for. We like to pick spots that best meet our needs--trees, treeless, roomy, near the restrooms, etc.

Apparently, this is frowned upon at these two parks. The excuse they gave us is that it's too busy on the weekends to allow a drive-through such as this. Well, it's over 100 degrees out, and it's the local fair weekend, so the only people out and about at these parks were on the water in their boats or in the water swimming. There were no "kids running around" as one lady told us.

My family camps a lot. These are the only parks we have not been allowed to scout out. This unwelcoming atmosphere tells me that these parks have something to hide. Are the sites not maintained? Are the electrical outlets not up to code? Does it smell like sewer? Are they too far from or too close to the water, because that is something to consider with children.

Maybe these are not issues at these parks, but I can't say. I can't pull up maps or pics for these parks on your website either, I should note.

Now, this is only one of the issues today. The other issue is your employees' behavior. You know, customer service goes a long way with me. Only one of the three employees was pleasant. The old hag who barely took her cigarette out of her mouth was downright hostile. We asked for her boss's contact info and she said to look it up on the website.

So, the asinine rule about not allowing potential campers to scout sites takes a back seat. Hey, that's your rule, and you can do what you like. But your business depends on customers. And we should be treated with respect. I think your employees could use some...

Every year for past 5 years we have been renting the biggest cabin and going to this park with my whole family and group of friends. The cabin always had been clean , inside out. But we had the worse experience in our last recent trip to this place. I don't know what the heck happened and who is running that park now but if you go there you will see by your own eyes that this place looks dirty and disgusting. The plumbing in the kitchen was leaking the whole time of our stay.they even didn't to bother and vacuum the place from last time that they rent the cabin out. You can not sit outside or stand outside because of black and red spiders. When you look around yourself you see all the broken trees that they even didn't bother to cut and clean the environment . If you want to risk and seat outside you have to sit in dark because they even didn't put a light outside. If you want to go with your family to have a good time or if you have any children that they are coming with you and they want to play outside, if you are thinking you will get to stay in a clean and nice place, if you want to enjoy a beautiful nature, I would not recommend oak thicket park . My friends and friends are so disappointed of this park and most definitely we will choose somewhere else to enjoy our family time that it worth of spending the time and money. I wish I could upload some pictures that I took from our recent visit so you would see how bad this place was. The worse part of this was when I point out some of these things to the management of the park and their attitude was not professional and friendly at all. Please don't wast your and your family time to go there and be an unhappy visitor. NEVER GOING...

We stayed in cabin 104 in late April 2022. Update May 2023: we stayed in cabin102 for 3 nights; cabin was clean, good AC, adequate amenities. The campgrounds are well maintained and quiet. The fishing was good; we always “catch and release”, caught several 1-3 pound bass over 3 days. Nice outdoor grills and fire pits. Pets are not allowed in cabins, too bad, we wish we could have brought our little dog. Overall an excellent trip and fun experience; we will be back. The cabins have been renovated with new paint, plank floors, sinks/fixture, and appliances. They also now sell ice, firewood, and bait at the park office. We had a great experience at the cabin; the fishing was great; we purchased firewood and they delivered it to our cabin site. I highly recommend this park11

This park has been in need of attention for many years and finally some have improvements have been done and others are planned for the near future. Hopefully this park will soon be back to its full potential. A new management company now oversees operation of the park. They have said more improvements to the inside of the cabins are planned for Spring 2021. The outside of the cabins were cleaned and painted recently and look very nice. The brush and overgrown trees have been trimmed back throughout the park. While looking kinda rough now, it will greatly improve the park's overall appearance soon. Kudos to those who have finally taken the initiative to begin this transformation.
