I hate to leave anything besides a great review. However if it was me I would like to know more about this rental. And also I believe they could use critique as room for improvement especially for the safety of their guests. We stayed in the River Terrace house.
We believe they should invest in some kind of generator because too many things on this property are reliant on having power which was lost the entire 1st night.
Walked into the house upon check in and found no power. Which we found out very quickly means no calling for help, no flushing toilets, no shower, no sink, no stove to cook & a hot fridge for our groceries we just bought from Heb in Uvaulde.
There is absolutely no reception on the property unless they have power for their wifi. So we were very confused. You can't call the office to find out what's happening & you can't call anywhere. We needed to call my son who was on his way with his girlfriend. The sun was going down and we were worried. We were about to be in the dark and we couldn't cook dinner because the stove is electric. We couldn't flush the toilets or use the sinks because the water somehow is connected to the electricity. We saw people walking down to the river to collect water in their coolers to flush their toilets.
3.Also, please replace the old refrigerator because it doesn't cool. They know this as someone placed an old school thermometer inside of it that stayed in or near the danger zone the entire time. So your food is not kept at the right temperature. Not to mention we had no power the 1st night at all but it never cooled safely during the multiple days we were there after. With all of the meat sitting in the hot refrigerator for 8 hours we ended up having to replace it. I nicely asked Veronica if there was anything that they could do for the fact that we now had to go repurchase food and we didn't get to use the property the first night because there was no power. I understand it was a power outage in the area but I did think that would have been the right thing to offer something. Veronica told me no and no one else lost their food. So I believe she thinks that I should have given my family meat that's been sitting out for 8 hours. She can say no but I did think that was rude.
You have to check into the office before you can go to your property. The property is not easy to find. Our instructions were to look for white poles. There's lots of white poles on this road. I believe maybe they can paint the poles a brighter color like pink & maybe make it easier. Otherwise look for two short poles on each side of a dirt entrance. Go slow. I believe they had a little yellow tape at the top . You cannot find this property as you can barely see it from the road. And yes it is off of a main road that they drive fast so be careful. There is also a safety concern when you're entering and leaving their dirt hill on the hill as well. It's a narrow road on a hill you immediately have to drive down into to get to the property. If someone is leaving and entering at the same time it's a recipe for accident because it is only big enough for one car and you can't see each other as you're driving up the hill and they're about to pull in. If possible they should widen that road.
Now for the things that aren't a safety concern. They were friendly upon check-in and the house was clean. I think it's odd that they tell you they're starting you out with one roll of toilet paper and a roll of paper towels.
That being said the sunroom area was a nice space and we enjoyed the kitchen as well. They were homey and bright. The bedrooms/ bathrooms were sufficient although bare. The river entrance was pretty close to this house.
So I think as long as the power doesn't go out or if they get a generator you would be fine. I personally just would like to know what is possible to happen. I...
Read moreOverall, the secluded property and access to the river was a wonderful experience because we enjoyed each other's company and the nature. We stayed in cabin #7 in September. You can hear some highway noise when sitting on the porch, but nothing that would ruin the stay. The fire ring was lovely in the evening; we built a small fire and star gazed - beautiful. The first night was not clear enough to see the stars (it had rained pretty heavily earlier that day), but the second evening was clear as a bell. The trail leading to the river was about a 5 minute trek with a small portion being steep. There's a lovely open area at the shore with easy river access and a picnic table. We chose to visit Garner State Park for the day for swimming because the water level at the cabin was low. Fine for wading, but we wanted to explore the park anyways and it was only a few minutes' drive away. The cabin was clean with comfortable beds (you must supply all linens, pillows and towels), but the seating in the living/dining room was just a futon couch. Not comfortable for sitting at all! There was only one other hard, straight backed chair. There are two bathrooms, but only one shower. The dining area is a picnic table with attached benches (also uncomfortable for sitting and was a bit of a squeeze in the small cabin). Definitely bring your own chairs for comfort and to sit around the fire. I also recommend bringing kitchen items. We were only 4 adults and a dog, so the small amount of kitchen items worked well enough (we prepared most of the food at home in advance and just had to re-heat), but the stove top (electric) is apartment size (tiny burners) and the cookware was underwhelming. For only two nights and with advanced prep, it's manageable. There is no internet/wifi access unless you drive back to the office, but we were told they are adding that in the cabins at the end of the month - not a deal breaker for us. There is a TV, but only works to watch DVDs because there's no cable, streaming ability or even an antennae for local channels. Again, not a deal breaker, but not advertised. The staff were helpful and friendly, offering to provide us with DVDS, but we chose to play...
Read moreSo many options to choose from, don’t go with Frio River Vacation Rentals or stay at Heaven’s Canyon.|First, they do not clean well at all. From the washing machine to the showers, to the pantry and the fire hazards of the stove. Literally the laziest cleaners I’ve ever encountered at a cabin rental. ||The owners of the cabin need to replace the stove, the poor excuse for mattresses and have wifi available when it clearly states on the website that it is available. If this place burnt down, I wouldn’t be surprised because of how filthy and in bad shape the electric stove is. It amazed me how a stove that had burners that could barely function was able to catch on fire multiple times! Which goes back to the cleaning crew and cabin owners at fault. While on appliances, the washing machine didn’t work properly, leaving undissolved laundry pods in the clothing. By the way, the internet router is directly above the washing machine, yet you don’t have access to it in 2024. ||The mattresses and beds were awful. When you moved in bed, you’d sway back and forth. Any minute it felt like you were about to collapse. The mattresses were so thin the springs popped you. I have purchased cheap mattresses before for bunk beds in guest rooms that were around $100 a pop. They must have gotten paid to take these. Only thing I can think of why these were in a rental for paying guest. ||They want you to leave a review and if it’s negative they obviously aren’t going to show it. The guest book in the front was full of complaints. Do not trust the reviews they have on the website. This company is a joke. Stay else where, if you plan on doing any cooking, sleeping, showering or washing of clothes. ||In all fairness, they...
