If you want to charge me a premium price, I expect you to follow through with amenities and service.
For +$200 a night, I should get towel service. No towels, really?
For +$200 a night, I shouldn't get a single roll of toilet paper in my room, because 'people steal them'. (their words, not mine)
For +$200 a night, I should get ice.
Instead, at the premium price, I was nickel and dimed for every little thing. $7 for 4 pieces of wood. $3 a bag of ice. Kayaking? That costs $49 extra. I'm not sure what the $20/day 'resort' fee was for, but it wasn't for any of those things.
Let me be clear, I am not a bargain-basement vacationer. I've been in some of the most amazing hotels in the world. I have also stayed in a Japanese pod hotel. There are different expectations for different price bands.
Let's be honest about the good stuff: Beautiful property. Very friendly, lovely staff. Nice cabins.
But as nice as this is, it doesn't outweigh the poor value. And the approach this establishment takes with it's customers is not what I expect from an establishment that charges a premium price.
I get the impression this is a business that is a victim of it's own success. I did not feel like an honored guest staying here - as nice as the staff was, and I want to be clear that they are very nice - but I always felt reminded that it was a bit of an inconvenience if I needed anything. Indeed, on one night there was nobody even there to get us toilet paper, as staff was MIA.
To conclude: A beautiful riverside property! Decent enough cabins. And lovely, friendly staff. But at the end of the day, I would never stay here again. At $700+ for three nights, I expect to feel welcome, well attended, and well-serviced. Unless the management takes a hard look at their approach to servicing customers, I...
Read moreVery nice campground with plenty to do! Location is right on the Frio with a few decent swimming holes, little playground, volleyball net, basketball, splash pad and pool for kids. Office sells a few river items which is convenient and is not far from Leakey. Cabins are nice, with small stove, microwave, fridge and basic kitchen items. I would of liked to have had a washing machine or at least a washroom available. Outside is cozy with lots of shade but not much privacy. Perhaps some sort of bamboo pull down shades would help having neighboring guests peeking over at what your doing. BBQ and fire pit dead center between each cabin. So having a bbq or a nice cozy fire does affect neighbors next to you.
Office staff is great and very helpful. This campground is perfect for FAMILY getaways with the kids and for the most part is. There needs to be more enforcement on loud music, particularly vulgar explicit music. A few times sitting in river or up in cabin outside porch with kids, obviously college/teens were playing loud explicit lyric rap music and everyone yelling and cursing.
I understand having a good time but with respect for others around you. Definitely something to keep eye on. I’d also suggest a third entrance leading down to the river near #1 and maintain the large amount of poison oak growing near fencing area in bluff.
But all in all...
Read moreJust got home from a mini vacation at River Bluff Cabins and am already ready to go back! Our cabin was clean and the proximity to the river was second to none. This part of the river is perfect and very family friendly with plenty of spots to relax in a water chair or completely submerge in the clear, cool water. The central park/play area and splash park was a big hit with our toddler and I enjoyed cooking burgers, steaks, and smores on the grill and firepit. Office staff is friendly and accomadating in a way that is genuine and unforced. The beds were as comfortable as mine at home. Some small towels and washclothes were provided in the kitchen and bathroom, but we had to bring our own shower and river towels. If you don't have towels then dollar general about 5 minutes down the road can hook you up for 6 bucks. Would have been nice to have some basic spices and such provided in the cabin, but again, just down the road there is a mercantile that has just about everything you need food and toiletries wise. All things considered, I can not imagine staying anywhere else on what is soon to be an annual or bi-annual family trip. Thank you River Bluff Cabins for...
