I don’t typically leave reviews with comments because I do not leave bad reviews or reviews period. My preferred method is word of mouth not google. I wasn’t planning on leaving a review until I saw false responses from ownership in the reviews.
I attended a wedding at the Hotel Conneaut this weekend. I did not stay at the hotel and chose to book a VRBO that was right down the road.
The hotel is on a beautiful lake side setting with spectacular views. If you can look past the broken down amusement park rides on the road to the hotel it is truly an amazing property.
To the owners. I can see your vision and respect the undertaking it must be to try and restore such a historic piece of Conneaut history. I truly applaud your efforts. The ballroom renovation is absolutely beautiful. However you do have something’s to work on moving forward.
Immediately upon arrival to the hotel I witnessed staff being talked down to by one of the owners. I was embarrassed for that employee to the point that I told them they were doing a great job after you walked away. This same negativity was witnessed multiple times throughout the day with different staff members and again after you left I applauded the employees efforts. Please treat your employees better.
The food was average at best. Depending on when your table was sent to the buffet you either had hot food with fresh green beans or you had cold over cooked food and canned corn. I was not impressed with the food at all. Towards the end of the reception munchie tables were set up. You had your choice of under cooked burger sliders or burnt chicken tenders with a French fry bar. They had all the condiments anyone could dream for in unopened containers with no utensils or means of serving. Great idea just needed better execution.
I agree that things went wrong at the end of the night. Not nice things were said to the owner that was present not the entire staff so please be transparent. I was not involved with that part but I do apologize on behalf of those who were involved. You the owner were the only one involved so please stop saying staff in your responses to reviews and take some ownership of what transpired. You choose to pull the plug on the DJ literally. That extra three minutes after the contract time of 10:30 would have been so worth all the Instagram tags and Facebook posts showing all the beautiful pictures that were taken at your hotel. All the Pinterest post that would have been pinned spotlighting your hotel were lost for three minutes or less for the planned last song of the bride and groom to finish. Truly a missed opportunity for free advertisement.
Also please be clear in your responses to the reviews about how it played out. No charges were filed and the only reason people had to leave is because you ordered the police to trespass them. In the future you should really consider the liability consequences of throwing out guests that are intoxicated who were served by your staff and had rooms booked at your hotel.
You should also check the video that you claim to have because the reviewer you stated was escorted out by police and trespassed was not involved in any of the incident. He spent the night and checked out this morning. Be more thorough before you make accusations and slander
Please save the canned response or accusations towards my character for my review. I was working to defuse the situation and was instrumental in calming the chaos. I couldn’t have been more polite to you or your staff throughout the entire event. Please show me the respect I showed you and the...
Read moreWe had a party of 5 attending a Murder Mystery Dinner at the hotel. We all purchased our tickets online. Two of our party bought the overnight package. None of us received a confirmation from the Hotel. I called to find out if we were supposed to have tickets. They said no, we just needed to bring our receipts. I also asked how the mystery was run as I'd never been to one before and wasn't sure what to expect. The man on the phone replied that he didn't know, because he'd never been to one before either.
We arrived and were seated at a table near the wall. The room was beautiful and so were the table decorations, but that was about it. It was VERY crowded, EXTREMELY loud and all you could smell was cheap beer. The food tasted good, but it wasn't hot, some people had under cooked chicken and found hair in their potatoes. Also, drinks were not included (which was not disclosed) and could only be purchased by the pitcher. We stuck with water, but some of our glasses had to be replaced as they were dirty.
We were each given a slip of paper that explained which characters were which and given a list of questions that we were supposed to ask them. All characters were supposed to stop by our table. But only one did the entire night. In addition to this, we couldn't hear most of what was going on, due to a shoddy sound system and we certainly couldn't see anything.
We ended up missing a large part of the mystery, because we weren't told we had to have wrist bands (we weren't checked for them at the door, just seated), and had to pay a tip. So we had to get up in the middle of everything and take care of that. Nowhere on the website were we told that he had to pay a tip when we arrived. I told the woman at the desk that that was not disclosed. She rudely informed me that she didn't write the website and that we were just going to have to pay, as one always paid a tip for a dinner. I informed her that we would pay the tip, but that it should be disclosed and that usually a tip was left up to the discretion of what the customer wanted to pay. So we paid, but only because we wanted to hurry up and get back to the mystery we had paid for! The two in our party that had planned to stay overnight, went to check in and were told there was no record of their payment and that there were no rooms left. They showed their receipt and were told they would be given a refund. Later the hotel staff informed the party of two, they "found" a room. At this point we were all disgusted and the two had made plans to stay elsewhere. They refused the room and the refund was rescinded due to the hotel's two week cancellation policy. No customer service at all.
We returned to our table, which was quite difficult to get to and many people had to move out of their seats to make room for us to get through, and found that everyone else had dessert, except us. We had to find a lady who was clearing plates and inform her. She was very kind, apologized and promptly brought it to us. As soon as the mystery was over and we were told who the murderer was, we booked it out of there NEVER to return. BEWARE! Bad food, irritable staff, no...
Read moreGood day, roughly the end of March of this year my wife and I were invited to a birthday party at the hotel conneaut. The party was for a former co worker and was to be held on Saturday May 11th. After making the decision that we were going to attend we decided to spend the evening at the Hotel Conneaut, we figured we’d both have several drinks and decided let’s just “walk home” that night as opposed to risking issues like a DUI. My wife unlike me is very detail oriented and takes copious notes during all of her business dealings no matter how large or small. At his point she began calling the HC for a room for the night. From roughly the end of March till April 13th she called 13 times without an answer save for a recording asking us to leave our info. On April 13 a woman answered the phone and took our reservation and explained as it wasn’t “in season” there was nobody at the desk most days. She also asked if we wanted and “upgraded room” that would include a shower and not a tub. She explained it would be a few dollars more. When my wife who is thrifty inquired about our rate she was told it would be roughly 150 dollars. Which we thought was reasonable. At roughly 4pm on May 11 we attempted to checkin to the HC, two young ladies initially said we had NO reservation, then discovered our name and number on a piece of paper on the back of the desk. Failing to use the computer to check us in they called the mgr for help. We used our Mastercard to checkin. When my wife asked for our receipt, we were told the printer was acting up and the receipt would be slid under our door later. The room had no furniture except for a bed, which was adequate, barely.we attended a nice party, retired for the evening, then prepared to leave the next morning. There was NO receipt under our door. When we attempted to leave we stopped at the desk only to discover, there not only was no one there, but apparently no one in the entire Hotel. We left our key with a note and departed. Fast forward to Saturday June 1st, our credit card statement arrived, and we were upset to discover our bill for the evening was $220. My wife was very upset, so I told her I would call and inquire about the discrepancy. From noon last Saturday till 330 or so I called 14 times without an answer. Around 345 a young man who was “a worker” answered and instructed me to call back after 4pm. At 415 Keith answered the phone listened to my story, took my name and cell and promised me Joanna would call me back. It is now Tuesday am and no one has called me. So outside of leaving this very lengthy comment, we’ve no other option but to say lesson learned and move forward. As former Conneaut Lake residents disappointed would be an understatement, and I obviously would not make any positive recommendation regarding the HC. I will be very interested to see if a response is...
