Definitely Given the Business End. I recently had a stay at this Inn with my husband and our dog. When we showed up, we were thrilled with the beautiful room and view. The room was pristine and furniture was super comfy. It was not until we began to get ready for bed that we realized not all of the windows had blinds and none had curtains. Obviously the room was rented to us before it was fully finished. I assume they saw a chance to get some money and took it. When I made my reservation I was told that the store accross the street had a fire that also burned down the restaurant accross the street but that a food truck was there in its place. They neglected to tell me the food truck, Cafe next door that is owned by the same owner as the Inn, and many other local establishments were closed until Memorial Day. We were there the week prior. This meant we had to drive to get food. My husband and I came here for a quiet respite but were awoken each morning by banging and drilling above our heads. There were men installing window boxes outside our reading nook which had no blinds on two windows! This nook area is directly accross from the bed and the inside of the bathroom is also visible. It is also directly accross from the walkway to the main entrance of the Inn. The first morning, after being woken up I went to use the bathroom and on my way back was eye to eye with a workman on a ladder able to fully view me in my pajamas! At that point, I came up with my own make shift curtains using the bathrobes that had been provided. I would have hung them the night before had I known there would be work occurring right outside my window. Throughout our stay, my husband kept requesting bathrobes to hang as curtains because no other solution was provided by the Innkeeper or owners and we kept finding gaps where we could see the workers so obviously they could see us! We no longer felt any sense of privacy. When we complained about the noise, we were told it was after the quiet hours of 9 to 9. When I'm on vacation, I don't want to be up early enough for work hours. I should have that right. There was also construction going on accross the street on the dock that went on all day. Obviously, they knew all of this work was going to be occurring during our stay, that the window treatments for our windows had not yet arrived, and yet they rented the room to us anyway without warning of such. We felt duped! I conveyed all if this to the Innkeeper via text who took it to the owners and they refunded $75.00 out of $1,200.00 for our inconvenience which considering our lack of privacy and respite, was an insult. Additionally, beware they charge your card the full fee at booking, not 50% as their web site suggests. This was fine with me because I booked the stay very close to our travel but it's still false advertising. I can see how some people may have had better experiences because the view is stunning and the bed is like sleeping on a cloud. But I think those people came after all work for the year was done and businesses were open. I do also think the view will not be as good when the buildings that burned down accross the street are rebuilt. Lastly, beware that there are other policies not shared until after you book and they have your money. You must remove your linens from your bed, and collect your own garbage. I usually put all garbage in one area and keep the rooms very clean but I've never had to strip my own bed before. I was glad I travel with my own garbage bags because none are provided and the only can in the room is a small heavy marble one in the bathroom. Obviously we won't be returning and I strongly advise others to find other places to stay in the area with owners who aren't so money hungry and are more transparent with their customers. From what I've read in the other reviews, I guess I was lucky to get anything back from this flash in the pan. See pics for my make-shift...
Read moreWe were looking for a cozy, old inn, and this is exactly what we found! As Mainers who understand what Covid has done to our travel and service industries, we came with the expectation of a clean room right in the center of town, and that most likely there would be closures of restaurants and shops on the usual Monday and Tuesday in our coastal towns. We planned accordingly, and were pleasantly surprised that the General Store was available on all three days we were there. The cafe was not, but we managed. Our primary goals were hiking on Monhegan Island, visiting the Wyeth Gallery, and seeing the Marshall Point Lighthouse up close. We also took advantage of the museums on the peninsula and fabulous restaurants. Rather than dwelling on the negative impacts of our times, we thoroughly enjoyed what was provided and plan on visiting again. Linda Bean is to be commended for what she has accomplished in that area, and for that we are grateful. The Captain's Cabin room in which we stayed was lovely, with the usual amenities for this type of lodging. We only wish we could find out more of the history of the inn and its previous owners. I would recommend this...
Read moreOld charming inn, unbeatable location. Shared bathrooms need to be improved/redone: no hook to suspend your clothes and towel, no light over the mirror, door lock that every body was fighting ... Wifi was not great, we could not get any signal in our room which was a problem as there is no cellphone coverage (internet speed was ok when you can connect): owner should invest in a mesh wifi to have good coverage. The parking lot could be improve by installing signs to attribute each place to a specific beedrom: this would prevent car from taking 2 spots and should deter customers from the business next door...
