Discovering the beauty of Carp River in Saint Ignace, Michigan - from the bridge to a tranquil waterside view. Nature’s serenity captured!#yooper #michiganoutdoors #outdooradventures #naturelover #hiddengems #fyp

No hassle camping. Each site is large with a table and fire ring. Most are shaded and flat. Not a Michigan State Park so there is no out-of-state penalty. Just fill out and envelope form, pay $15, and you're done. They accepted our America the Beautiful card which reduced our cost to $9. Be aware, If you check in before 2:00pm, you must pay for two days so if you want to hold a site before taking a ferry to Mackinaw Island, you'll pay for two nights.

Surprisingly few bugs for the end of July. Ideally they could build new stairs and a deck at the bottom of the hill overlooking the Carp River. The steps down at the bridge are getting overgrown and could use a good weed whacking. It’s beautiful here though, the campsites are spacious and private. Well is a simple on off handle. No pumping required. Bathrooms are clean and well kept.

My wife and I spent a few days at this campground and was a nice place to stay. We camped at site #7 and found that was pretty much the best site if you are looking to be away from others. The site was large and very wooded which we like when camping. ||The camp hosts were very nice and helpful with questions we had. They also drove around the campground periodically just to “check on things” and made sure everyone was enjoying themselves. ||The big drawback were the vault toilets, they weren’t very clean and probably the smelliest we have ever experienced. I get it, they are not like flush facilities but were by far the worst we have seen. This would be one area for the campground to figure out. ||We liked the location because it was just a 20 min drive to town to get a ferry to Mackinac Island and about an hour or so drive up to Tahquamenon Falls. The drive up there was nice and allowed us to stop and eat lunch along Lake Superior. Make the drive if you have time because it’s really...

Drinking water well in the back loop was out of service. Large potholes all over the campground road were not filled or patched. Bathroom in the middle section of the campground was closed.

The campground road is in dire need of either repaving or converting to gravel.

Campsites are very scenic with ample woods and vegetation between sites. Few are on the actual river, however, and there are only a couple stairways to access the river along the campground's half mile of water frontage.

Most sites on the river don't have a great view of the water because trees and vegetation between sites and the river aren't trimmed back.

Bathrooms were extremely clean, but considering overall infrastructure maintenance I'd say the state does far better keeping up their campgrounds than the federal forest does here.

There was no onsite host in July 2024...
