If you're considering a stay at the Comfort Inn and Suites in St. Johnsbury, VT, I'd advise you to pause and explore local Airbnb options. You might just save some money and enjoy better service. This advice comes from a seasoned visitor, having frequented this establishment over a dozen times.
The Comfort Inn and Suites has its merits. I've spent quiet, clean nights here, including my honeymoon in their well-maintained suite. The guests, much like the town's residents, are generally respectful, contributing to a peaceful atmosphere. However, these positives are overshadowed by a series of disappointing experiences, particularly with the hotel's amenities and staff.
The hotel's pool and gym facilities, while seemingly attractive, are marred by high costs and access issues. A day pass for the pool costs $20 per person, with no discounts for children or regular users. The gym's key card access system is finicky, often requiring multiple attempts and staff intervention to open. When I raised this issue with Terry, a front desk employee, his dismissive response suggested a "patience issue" or a "lack of understanding" on my part. As a cybersecurity engineer who has spoken at DEFCON, I assure you, understanding a hotel key card is well within my capabilities.
My family and I have spent hours in the pool area, trying to get the most out of our $80 investment. Yet, we were repeatedly interrupted by an employee eager to turn off the whirlpool, despite our clear intention to continue using it. The posted rules seemed more like recommendations, but the staff's interpretation was rigid and inflexible.
Moreover, the concept of a "day pass" seemed lost on the staff. When I asked Terry if we could leave and return later in the day, he reluctantly agreed but couldn't guarantee the next shift's cooperation. A day pass should cover the day, not just a single session.
The hotel rooms, while quiet and clean, are overpriced. This, coupled with the staff's lack of understanding and flexibility, leads me to recommend local businesses over the Comfort Inn and Suites. If aesthetics are your sole concern, you might overlook the staff's rudeness, the overpriced rooms, and the lack of value for your money. But if you're seeking a more rewarding, respectful experience, consider other options. St. Johnsbury has much to offer beyond the confines of the Comfort...
Read moreThere were a number of problems starting from the very beginning. We were greeted by a woman at the front desk whom seemed annoyed that I had interrupted her day. I was not directed or given directions to my room, she just pointed to the elevator, only after I asked. We were not given any information about the hotel or it's ammentaties. Now, fast forward to our room. Let me remind you we paid for the presidential suite. As I walked into the room I found a dirty tub along with hair along the rim, I moved the couch over and there was bacon all over the floor underneath it. Every surface not covered by an object was full of dust and untouched. There was a decorative plate on the mantel that had at some point been used as a plate to cook food on. I know this because there was burnt and crusted old food melted to the plate and to top it off, blood rubbed all over a painting on the wall. I won't even get into the hair in the breakfast food. Apparently, not only are there zero standards for house keeping and obviously non for sanitation and safety measures taken in the kitchen. Upon my check out I did tell an employee behind the front desk about these issues as well as showed him pictures. He did nothing. This mam said he would talk to the head of house keeping. This hotel has failed in so many ways. I paid alot of money to be treated poorly but I had to stay in a unsanitary room that could have exposed us to health issues due to the negligence of the staff. I feel that a report to the health department is indeed nessasry. As well as a very detailed explanation to any patron that considers this hotel. There was not one person willing to apologize never mind make...
Read moreOverall, this Comfort Inn was very nice. It was well above my expectations, especially when compared to another hotel in this brand that, upon check in, I realized was so bad, I decided to cancel my stay.
The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel common areas and room were exceptionally clean. My room was large and comfortable.
I stayed in the large suite that had a whirlpool tub. It was a great way to relax. The bed was comfortable. The decor was a bit outdated, but the room itself was clean and in excellent repair.
