I can't say enough about what Marina de Salinas did for us...... My experience at Marina de Salinas came unexpectedly during Category 5 Hurricane Maria. My friends and I were headed out on a sailing adventure in the Caribbean. Hurricane Maria had other ideas. At the last moment after tying down the yacht in the Mangroves nearby, when we realized we couldn't stay on our boat, some locals offered to drive us to safety - Marina de Salinas. We were immediately offered shelter from the impending disaster - free of charge. Anyone and everyone who asked for help was offered shelter - free of charge. But my comments relate to what happened AFTER the hurricane. The man in charge did not hesitate one moment to ensure that we were ALL taken care of in every way possible. Given that there were about 30 people stranded, that was no easy task. He and all of his staff worked selflessly each and every day - morning to night (when they all had their own homes to worry about) - to get the generator running again; to cook breakfasts, lunches & dinners with their remaining food that was generously augmented by gifts of food from the stranded people; to help get gas & diesel for those that needed it; to assist in helping retrieve people's boats from the Mangroves - which included buying parts and tools; to spearheading trips to San Juan in an effort to get people's emails out to loved ones across the world.... there was nothing that they did NOT do for us. This resort - their hotel rooms, their restaurant, their snack bar and their marina - has been devastated, and I am MORE than awestruck with the selflessness and caring of absolutely everyone who works there. I cannot say enough about each and every one of them. We became family. I still need the vacation that wasn't, and Marina de Salinas is where I'm going to spend it when I go...
Read moreDefinitely rated under motel category, not hotel. Rooms are super small, Europe style small. The check in process was weird, in a sense the lady was courteous however didn’t seem to know enough information. Problem and huge concern. Check in office “lobby” they work from 9-5pm. Like why?! They have two ladies..instead having two , why not divide the shift? So, at least someone is in the check in area until 10pm or so. Nope not here. So apparently any emergencies, help assistance or even checking in after 5pm..you have to go in a scavenger hunt for the only guard within the place and he will check you in ...I believe & assume.||||Like I said, room tiny, no hot water-however it was clean a few mosquitos inside the room which we spend some time killing them. Tv channels didn’t work, because All rooms are nearby the bar (restaurant) area- you can hear everything, annoying laughters, screaming, music and so on. Typical download local bar kinda place. ||||If you go out to the deck área within this motel place, the view is really nice. So, basically this place was selected as my last resource and was categorized as been recently remodeled, which it seems the rooms have went under a renovation, some basic furniture, beds not enough pillows or sheets- but seems new. ||||I wish I could’ve give them more than two stars but my review is base on the above facts and experience. This is definitely a motel style kinda place, they need some serious work to be classified as hotel, nevertheless resort. Most importantly, stop pricing your rooms at such. Unless, administration is willing to put the effort, adequately demonstrate starting with customer service and other important perks as other hotels around the world do. ||||Not recommend, unless for desperate last...
Read moreThe place is just great; like having a family when away from home. Ken, the owner, and his staff are tremendous. Having suffered Hurricane Maria, he opened his doors to those stuck from the escaping the Hurricane, as well as the local community. And they worked hard to get the place cleaned up and open, again, after the storm - to provide a much needed safe harbor for weary, hungry and thirsty travelers. In addition, Ken has worked hard to ensure life gets back into a semblance of order by ensuring the "Snack Bar" is always open with a good meal every evening, a welcome cocktail for tired relief workers at night and sometimes even a local band. (All this while suffering major damages/losses to the docks and the beautiful restaurant which will take years to fully rebuild and recover from.) I will never forget all those I met at Ken's place; a family that welcomed me in when I was stuck without a place to stay in Salinas. And now another family to me. Please, if you can, thank Ken by patronizing his establishment. I assure you, you will NOT be disappointed. David H., Working FEMA disaster...
