Bay Area Camping ⛺️ Checked Off!

Hot during the 4th of July weekend 2021. Fireworks not allowed. Acorn Campground is 1 of 3 campgrounds around the lake on paved roads. Multi (numbered) dirt camp sites each with paved driveways for automobile(s), pop-up camper(s), RV(s). Accommodates 8 people, 1+ tents, with its own Fire pit, BBQ, Picnic table, and conveniently centralized in campground area are the gender specific restrooms/showers (Bring quarters to operate shower), potable water, water clean-out station for RVs, boat launch(s). We had a large gathering of people comprising of multi-families and singles occupying 3 campsites, and were luck to have got them adjacent to each other after having called reservations late in the game. We were all there for the 4th holiday, although those of us who could, stayed Friday to Monday. Beautiful sky at night as there are no city lights here. I toured the lake in my brother’s boat with family and friends, and the water was pleasant in the 70+ degree temperature, although due to the drought, the water level was very low, and we had to trek our lakeside gathering-gear a distance to the lakes edge. Lots of boating and water recreation on the lake this holiday, but certainly not crowded. There is no fuel station located within campgrounds. Park Ranger patrols area 24/7. Thanks.

I loved it here. I'm not a fan of crowds, though, and I can see this place getting really crowded during peak season, but I was here just before the President's Day holiday weekend, and it was very peaceful. A lot of the sites are spaced pretty well, all have the standard table, fire pit. I didn't use the restrooms or showers. I had to call recreation.gov to pay for the site (I didn't make reservations in advance), but I got to use a credit card. One note: I heard that there had been thefts in recent months, stuff left outside, including fishing gear. As soon as I heard this, I kept an eye on some people there who were definitely not camping there. Luckily I was next to a very nice neighbor, and we kept an eye on each others' stuff. I hiked my dogs for miles, but barely covered the lake. It's huge. Icing on the cake was that I caught fish (smallmouth)! I was in #78 and on the first day that was the protected side...the side with #100 was taking the brunt of a COLD wind. When I was there all sites below #65 were closed for the season. Another nice perk was checkout was 2pm...lots of time to be lazy on the day you leave.

Below average campground. I was looking for something that was under 3 hours drive from the Bay Area, with a lake to swim and camping. I was thrilled when I found this place had open spots on Labor Day weekend, so booked two. Pros: True, you can swim in the lake, but that’s where the plus ends. The water and even day use area is silt. We were hoping for at least gravel. So it was unpleasant to go into. Both Berryessa and Del Valley lakes are much nicer swimming experiences! Since that part is true giving it 2 stars. Also the campsite had partial shade - with thin leaf covering, providing some refuge from scorching sun. Cons: Too many RV’s, and the crowd to match. If that’s your thing - maybe the site is for you. I specifically booked “non-electric site”, looking for tents only around us - for a quieter get-away. This was not it. The few times we attempted to swim - some boats with obnoxiously loud music would pull up nearby. The beer/drinks and music with muddy water reminded me of a cheap, ghetto version of spring break. In early 30s, I don’t consider myself that old, and also still enjoy a good party. But a quiet getaway on the lake into nature does not seem to be the time to do it! The rest matched - campsite nearby partying with loud music and dogs barking way past midnight, and no ranger in site to enforce the quiet hours. The bathrooms would run out of toilet paper every day past noon. Sure it might happen once in a while. But every day? The caliber of people matched the low standards. I saw a grown woman wash her feet under the drinking water spigot. There was trash by the water - plastic cups, beer cans, old towels, etc. Won’t go back here again. There are many campsites that are close range to either lakes or rivers to swim in - that are tent only. It seems that tent only sites attract respectable people, who actually...

At no fault if the staff the rangers are exceptional. There is a serious lack of maintenance to the facilities. Every single restroom is well falling apart on every level. There is a serious issue with the homeless coming in at night to use the facilities which honestly I wouldn't care everyone needs a shower. However they have systematically destroyed the buildings. Every coin operated shower has been vandalized to steal the daily quarters ok fine they still worked just add a quarter and pick it up and add it again working shower. That just wasn't enough they took it a step further when the place was down to two operating restrooms and tore the whole thing out assuming the quarters must be inside. Still not enough well for some damn reason they also steal the shower heads that happened over the summer as well. So only half the grounds are available with 3 working restroom at the beginning of my stay. Within 10 days they vandalized 2 if the 3 so they closed them leaving only one. However the women's shower would not work in reported it but within the week it was not fixed. Now down to 1 facility for 55 sites and only men's shower works. No problem put a note up and take a quick shower water pressure is horrible but hey it's warm and enough. The last day I was there someone stole that shower head and the container if hand sanitizer like what the hell is going on? The grounds are much cleaner then the trash riddled pretty pathetic way it was all summer so they get a gold star. Why the sheriff hasn't been called and the group living across the road that I suspect are the trespassing thieves is beyond me. Sadly stay at your own risk. My day shelter was stolen as well!...

Stayed for only one night on a weekday in early October. The campground was mostly empty. Many of the camp sights were not level and some were very unlevel actually on a hilside.there were flush toilets but the sinks did not have running water in the men's room that I used. There was a shower but I did not realize it was there until I was about to leave and did not use it. The shower was either coin or token opperated. I do not know which. There is a huge lake or reservoir but the water level was so low that it effectively ma as well not have existed. Just a big dry place where a lake used to be. Reservations is through recreation.gov, $20 per night. There was a water faucet near my campsite withe running water. It is very near another campground called Oak knoll but that campground was closed and gated. Cell service was very sketchy to none and I use at&t. It is dry camping with no power hookups. Each campsite has a picnic table and fire ring. We found one of the few pull through sites or maybe the only one and it was good fou our small teardrop camper. We went the wrong way on the one way loop in order to park such that we could open our awning canopy. The restrooms were passable but I would not ldiscribe them as being very clean. i will add photos. There were several small deer wandering the campground. We probably will not stay here again but if I were stuck for a place to be for the night and were relatively near, this would be fine. See the photos for a better sense of the place and...
