The Grand Del Mar Spa is undeniably beautiful, but unfortunately, our recent experience was terrible. The quality of customer care is sorely lacking.
My husband and I booked treatments after a long, busy work week, hoping to relax and start our Labor Day weekend on a high note. Instead, it turned into a disastrous experience. A woman—clearly intoxicated—was roaming around both the outdoor co-ed area and the women’s locker room, carrying an alcoholic beverage everywhere she went. She was stumbling, literally jumping on strangers’ backs, loudly talking about how she disliked her body post-pregnancy, and making crude remarks.
She was also on her cell phone—making video and speakerphone calls—while her baby cried in the background at home. The loud crying carried through the calls and echoed throughout the spa’s private dressing areas, completely disrupting what should have been a serene space to relax, unwind, and disconnect from technology.
What was most disturbing was that the staff was informed about her, and no follow-up was made to guests like me who had a very poor experience due to this woman. The woman even admitted to an attendant that she was drunk, yet no action was taken until I personally had to intervene and warn them that she should not be driving. Eventually, they arranged for her to leave her car and take an Uber, but the situation should never have been allowed to escalate in the first place.
I immediately complained and was assured that management would follow up with me. No one ever called. I phoned again, and still, there was no response. For a property that markets itself as a sanctuary of wellness, this lack of care and follow-through is inexcusable.
I take no pleasure in writing this review—especially since I have previously praised Addison at The Grand Del Mar on my travel blog—but this was such a disappointing and unprofessional experience that it must be shared. Until the spa takes customer safety, service, and follow-up seriously, I cannot recommend it.
We did have a lovely dinner at Amaya, but because of such a horribly unpeaceful spa day, we almost cancelled dinner. Thankfully, we didn't and had a good meal and great...
Read moreFabulously clean facility. Includes validated valet parking with service. Loved the segregate clothing optional women’s spa area with jacuzzi, private patio, lounge, changing area, wet and dry saunas, showers and treatment rooms. Staff assured me the men’s side was identical facilities if you wanted to bring a friend. Robes, towels and shower items provided an immediately along with snacks and a variety of fruit waters. Slippers, and other toiletries upon request. My massage service was outstanding along with the mud and Swiss shower. The 85 degree clothed coed outdoor pool and very hot tub (super toasty temp) was beautiful and the poolside service was delicious. I ordered a virgin pina colada off the menu and it was delicious. Relaxing quiet atmosphere (we went on a Wednesday morning though) Everyone from the valet to the spa front desk staff to the pool was so kind and attentive and encouraged us to explore the grounds and restaurants. Will most...
Read moreThis place is a joke. I ordered a spa treatment for my wife as a Christmas gift but had to delay it over a call due to COVID. Then when the day comes up they call us at the time of the appointment (not before) to tell us we missed it and were going to be charged the full amount. The kicker... they put us down for the wrong day over the phone and so we were caught completely unaware. No confirmation calls or voicemails or anything. They took no confirmation to mean confirmation.
Additionally when we called up the staff to discuss the issues it devolved to the point where they were opening laughing at us over the phone. Just the worst customer service I've ever encountered and could not recommend more that people avoid a similar experience by...
