I recently stayed at Anthony Chabot Family Campground during a hot June weekend and had a mixed experience.

The scenery is beautiful, and the staff is friendly and helpful. However, the insect situation is overwhelming. Waking up to find my tent covered in over 30 insects was quite scary. Despite wearing long pants and a shirt, I still ended up with multiple insect bites on my ankle, and as someone allergic to insect bites, this was a significant issue for me.

Additionally, the campsite had a lot of dry soil around the fire pit and in the camping area, which resulted in our sneakers being covered in dust. It took several washes to get them clean.

Another downside was the noise. At night, the sounds of airplanes and trains were quite loud and disruptive. If you're sensitive to insects or noise, I would not recommend this campground for a peaceful camping experience.

I should also mention the weather during my stay. In the afternoon it was around 90°F and it dropped to 50°F at night, actually not very cold. But I got cold after one night, possibly due to the nearby lake making the environment relatively wet and cold. This added to the discomfort of the stay. If you're planning to camp here, be prepared for these temperature fluctuations and the potential for damp...

Discover an exceptional camping experience at Chabot Lake, offering 75 diverse sites to suit every preference. From convenient drive-in options for RVs, groups, and families to more secluded hike-in campsites, you'll find the perfect base for exploring the area. Many sites boast stunning panoramic lake views, while others are nestled in more private settings. The amenities are comprehensive and well-maintained, including flush toilets, hot water showers, and dedicated dishwashing/sewer disposal stations. Some campsites even offer the convenience of tap water, and all come with campfire pits. The facility is also commendably disabled accessible. Beyond the practicalities, I was pleasantly surprised by the presence of an amphitheater, which I suspect is used for engaging naturalist-led campfire programs. For connectivity, a telephone service is available for those with poor cell reception or in emergencies. The recreational opportunities are vast, with excellent options for hiking, biking, boating and fishing (permit required) in the lake. This is a truly remarkable location for quality time with family, friends, or a special partner. Dogs are permitted, but always remember to keep them on a leash. Highly...

Ive been visiting many RV parks in the last few months. This is by far the best campground ive been to. Its not only beautiful but the spaces are very large compared to every other place ive been to. It cost me $39 per night for full hookups. I paid another $2 per night for my dog. They have warm outdoor showers and theres no extra charge to use them. The area is very clean and kept up. Its a State Park and the others i went to didnt have hookups. Theres only 12 RV campsites with full hookups and they are very busy during the regular season. Its best to make reservations ahead of time so you can get a spot. The camp ground is higher in elevation than most of the surrounding area. They have great views but if you want to go to the lake driving is best unless you have the stamina to hike back up the big hills. It was very peaceful and i enjoyed my stay very much. Theres also tent sites which are very abundant. They are farther down road than the...

About 15 minutes after our arrival, maybe less, my family and I had already decided that we'd be back to camp at Anthony Chabot Campground again. Despite the rain! It's clean, quiet (so, so quiet), and beautiful! Surrounded by towering eucalyptus trees and the rolling hills of the East Bay. Plenty of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. We camped in a trailer at a site with full hook ups. 100% we will be doing that again but, were also interested in camping further into the park (no hook ups) in a site that over looks Lake Chabot. RV/trailer, tent, or hike-in I really don't think you can go wrong camping here. Check it out. You won't regret it If my photos don't convince you I don't know what will.

This hidden sanctuary of a park is located between Oakland and Castro Valley on Redwood Road. There are very few Redwoods in this park full of Eucalyptus trees. The park is planting native California oaks and California bay (laurel) trees to try to restore more native trees. The camping spaces are generous, there is a lot of wildlife, the nights are cool, the days pleasantly warm. There are great bike trails. The park looks down at Lake Chabot, and there are trails down to the lake and the boathouse and cafe. There are flush toilets and great showers. We spent a week here. It’s a tiny wilderness and you can hardly tell you are surrounded by a metropolis.
