I tent camped at site 21 while I stayed in town for a nearby volunteer gig. The area felt safe and it seems like a great place to introduce your kids to camping without going into the boonies (lots of families camping here). It's within driving distance of several great places to hike and explore (Bodega Bay, Sugarloaf SP) as well as within 10 mins drive to a lot of restaurants/gas stations/grocery stores if you need something last minute. I never saw the campground host but I got in later both evenings I was there and a park ranger was patrolling the site (friendly staff). Showers are available for a fee (quarter operated) and about what you would expect for a public camp shower. Hot water and potable water were available.
Read the site notes carefully when booking online. My site (21) said it was an RV/tent site with RVs not recommended and I definitely would NOT try to get an RV into this site. Not level with a sharp turn to back slightly upwards into your site. My mid size pick up w/ a 5 ft bed wasn't staying on pavement completely when accessing the site. It also says 2 tents could fit but 2 would have been a squeeze to fit in the slot (I had a "2 person" backpacking tent that fit well...
Read moreTotally awesome place to camp alone, with friends, a loved one, or the entire family! Be sure to reserve a spot ahead of time though, and scout the spot you want before reserving... some spots have little to no shade or a steep incline to trek from your spot to the public restrooms.
Close enough to the lagoon that you can walk down a trail to the east and loop to the lagoon for some swimming. It's about a 1.5 miles walk from the campground but I would hesitate to recommend anyone in a wheelchair attempt it as there is a steep incline... we barely managed it with a stroller!! 😂
10/10 would recommend!! Also, a Sonoma county parks pass will get you a free night of camping and you can park at the lagoon or other sonoma county regional parks for free just by displaying it in...
Read moreI wasn't disappointed with this campground. This was my first overnight here, even though I live in Santa Rosa. I was able to book my stay the night before I went. Most sites are a decent size, though, if you are tent camping some sites are better than others for level spots. Bathrooms were pretty clean, and showers were available but had key pad locks, and nothing in my reservation info mentioned a code for the doors, and I arrived after the kiosk was closed. I didn't bother looking for the campground host since I was only there for one night. I would definitely stay here again for a short notice...
