If you want to visit a beautiful, little known region of our country, the Nebraska Sandhills await you. And if you want to explore a working cattle ranch in the midst of the Sandhills, with the nicest people you'll ever meet, stay with the DeGroffs. This was our first time in Nebraska, and we chose to stay overnight at the ranch, located near Brewster, an old cowboy town with a population of 22. Our accommodations at "Doc Middleton's Hideout," were perfect - two bedrooms and a bath upstairs, a bedroom and bath downstairs, a full kitchen, and four decks overlooking the Sandhills and North Loup River. Bev DeGroff makes a wonderful breakfast, hearty and delicious. For a reasonable price, she also made us a dinner, the likes of which we hadn't tasted since my husband's boyhood days on the farm.
