My wife and I camped at the Savory Mountain State Forest Campgrounds for a couple of nights. Getting to the campgrounds is a bit tricky. If you want to avoid dirt roads, DO NOT FOLLOW YOUR GPS DIRECTION. We took Route 2 from the east going west. The campgrounds is on Central Shaft road on the left in Florida, Ma. BEFORE the hair pin curve. The blue street sign is difficult to see when heading west.
The campground is a short drive to the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail, about 30 minutes from the end of the trail head in North Adams.
The campgrounds have sites both under shaded trees and in open spaces, plus it has a few cabins in the woods. There are 3 bathrooms easily within walking distance from any site. Cell service was marginal, one to two bars at best.

Read moreGreat stay! The bathrooms were clean and freshly painted. Also really appreciated easy access to dishwashing stations at the bathhouse, made cleanup a breeze. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but I’m mostly mentioning that to remind you to bring bug spray because I’d go again in spite of that, it’s the great outdoors after all. We stayed in site 2, it was perfectly shaded and had easy trees for hammock hanging. Definitely appreciated having bear boxes available at the site...
Read moreWe loved our stay at Savoy Mt. State Forest Campground. Our campsite was incredibly peaceful, the bathrooms and showers were clean, and staff was friendly.
We hiked the Haskins and Bog Pond trail on the first day, quite a few deer flies (early July). Humans didn't get any bites but our dog received many.
Day two we hiked to Tannery Falls and there were less flies - highly recommend this hike as the falls are beautiful, it got steep on the approach...
