Run!!! This place is a dump and they think way too highly of themselves. That’s the short review. If you want the down and dirty, read on. Truthfully, I’m not sure where to start on my list of complaints with this place. I’m a travel nurse and booked a stay here for an assignment in Portland. Based on their website, and some positive reviews (they must have paid for them), I decided to take a chance. We arrive after I had already paid $1800. They made me pay for the rest of my three month stay up front. It averaged about $1950 a month after taxes etc. BEFORE I got to see our site. We were put into one of the smallest sites in that area of the campground. Once we wedged ourselves in, we began looking for a different campground. Only to find out you won’t get any money back if you leave, so we endured. When we went to complain we were told “That’s because you’re in a transient site” even though we’re here for the whole summer. They refused to move our site saying they were full even though we watched several larger sites next to us sit open, or have “transients” in them for weekends. We saw several other people there for the summer get moved to larger sites, but not us! Our camper was as long as the spot so there was no parking for our truck in front. It got to sit in our small patch of overgrown grass that wasn’t even big enough to accommodate our truck. Their pickleball courts are conveniently located beside the main drive next to their smelly dumpsters. Mmmm relaxing! Hopefully you can hit the ball, otherwise it’s going into traffic. The leech filled, seaweed bottom pond is gross, yet it’s their most highlighted amenity. Then! The rain came. Granted, it was a rainy summer, this place was not meant to handle even a day of rain. All their roads flooded, as well as most of their sites in our area. The whole park became a nonstop mud pit. We saw MANY rigs get stuck in the pools of water they tried to park them in. On the few days the park was dry you’d think you were on your way to Burning Man with the constant dust clouds caused by their roads. If the wind blew, you were chewing on dirt. Although they can’t manage nature, the ticks and mosquitoes were out of control. You’d think the grass would be mowed, right? Hell no. The only way our grass was ever acceptable is when we borrowed a neighbor’s electric mower. Otherwise, it was 6 inches tall… The ticks LOVED it!!! The staff at this place were some of the rudest, most impersonal people I’ve ever encountered. You’re generally greeted at the gate by an older guy with glasses who acts like you’re trying to break into Fort Knox. Trust me, nobody’s breaking into this dump, we’re trying to break out!! After an entire summer of being here you’d think he’d greet you with a wave like some of the others at the gate. There were a few friendly employees at the gate, and those were the only ones I encountered. At 8pm they start circling the park in their van to make sure nobody is having any fun. Don’t waste your money trying to do laundry, there. The washers and dryers are trash. They didn’t wash or dry half of our clothes. The park is full of random sewer caps that “may or may not work, we’re not sure”. If you choose to stay here, do so at your own risk. I’ll never be back.

We wanted to find a nice place for a weeks stay that would be convenient to Portland and Kennebunkport and thankfully, despite it being Labor Day weekend, we were able to find that at Wassamki Springs. Pros: The park is very spacious with a nice large pond that you can fish, swim, or boat in. Sites were fairly spacious for the most part, though I did see some that were a little tighter. They have a game room with pool tables and other games and even a jukebox and they offer things like a weekly bingo night and Sunday breakfast in it. One unique thing that I liked was that each spot had multiple faucet hookups which may not always be necessary but it was a nice thing to have when we needed to run water outside without having to unhook our hose pipe. Each site came with a fire ring and picnic table which are always nice to have. Also, most sites were pretty well shaded. Cons: Phone and internet service were not very good at all. We have Verizon and were barely able to use it. And their wi-fi was basically useless. Thankfully we had our Verizon jet pack hotspot that we were able to work off of, though even that didn’t work great all the time. Each site offered cable but for whatever reason ours didn’t work so I’m not sure if that was for the whole campground or just our site. All of the sites were just dirt which is not a huge deal but it can obviously get messy, especially when it rains. Overall: This was a very good campground with a lot to offer. There are a lot of seasonal or full time campers there so some sites are a little junky because of that but for the most part it looks pretty clean. You also have to have proof of rabies vaccination for any of your dogs so be prepared for that. But overall this was a good campground for all age groups and couples or families and it’s just a few minutes from downtown Portland so very convenient to a lot of stuff!

This was an okay place for the night but I would not stay again. I had a very lovely spot right on the water with lots of privacy and space however even though children were fishing next to my spot and others playing, swimming, and boating in other locations, dogs were not allowed in the water. There was not even one single spot given for the dogs to swim or cool off. It was very awkward so I had to keep the dogs in the van with the air-conditioner turned on. I visited a few weeks ago and there were no food offerings, much was still closed. I paid $81 which included a discount. There was a small fenced-off area near the entrance,a walk away from my spot, with nothing in it for dogs. My dogs found no interest there. The dog run was not large enough to play fetch and there was no water or any other feature for the dogs or people, it was just very hot with mosquitoes and potentially ticks. 😔 The shower was functional but very cramped, nowhere to put your clothes but it did work. There was also laundry available. The main reason I would never stay here was the huge blaring light shining into my camp spot. Felt like a "prison" light. It was absolutely awful and ruined any sense of comfort, peace, or rest. It was brighter than daylight and highly distrubing. Additionally, long-term campers had lots of bright outdoor lights left on all night. The big "prison" type light attracted thousands of mosquitoes. Maybe that was the point? A resident camper told me to watch for the bats that would come and eat the mosquitoes. After a mostly sleepless night, I found a small boat near my site partially filled with fetid water and breeding mosquitoes. Other campers did not have the beautiful view, I did enjoy the view (at least during the daylight hours.) The campground itself has potential. I was sad and tired when I left. Needs improvement if possible.

Family vacation 8/2024. We picked it based primarily on location, and distance it was from our day trips. The grounds were nice, well kept. Bathrooms were pretty clean considering. We were lucky enough that we had minimal rain one night. I mention this because I read the reviews after the fact and saw how it can flood in some sections. Thankfully we didn't experience that, however, with what little it did rain I can totally see it happening considering the large puddles from what little rain we did have. Now for our experience. Our very first night we arrived late at night. It was dark. Our post/hookup had no light whereas the others did. Our neighbor accidentally plugged into our spot so my husband plugged into his since they were side by side. No bigger right? Not going to cause a fuss over something small late at night right. So we thought. Ok, so the next day we left briefly. When coming back in I was driving my husband's truck, he in the passenger. Now we were warned right off the bat about the 5mph speed limit. So I, already nervous I'm his truck was literally riding the break, and watching my speedometer. Literally going 5-7 mph and only 7 barely when I tapped the gas to go over bumps. A older man on a bike comes flying down the street I was about to take a turn on. I saw his dust trail ,but didn't see him until he popped out in-between campers. I stopped a very good distance away. At least 50 feet away if not more because I was still on a different road but saw him around the bend when he popped out. He proceeds to ride over to me and very rudely asked what I was doing. Then after a very rude exchange tells me "this is your first warning" and then rides off. Just a few hours later we are on the playground with our kids. An elder couple drives by. Literally no one was around on the road and it was open so you could see with obstructions. They definitely weren't going 5mph but definitely not over 15. I'd say more like 12ish. Well there were a group of (clearly regulars) playing Cornhole. A woman from the group literally starts screaming at the top of her lungs while she power walked a far distance (like past where they were playing, right by us on the playground, to like 4 campers down) over to the elderly couple screaming the whole time about the speed limit. Needless to say it was super uncomfortable and so inappropriate. But the ironic part was most of them drove away and every single one of the car and golf carts all drove well over 5mph and were zipping all around. Total double standard! But it was so intense I felt so bad for the elderly couple and almost interjected just because of how intense she was. After this, I definitely took notice the week we were there and won't drive again. It definitely seems the speed limit only applies to certain people which is completely ludacris. Just wild. If your going to enforce a 5mph speed limit and threaten to kick people out over it then you do it for all especially because it is about safety right. But that is not what happened. It was very selective!!! So fast forward to our last day. The same guy who gave me my warning comes knocking on our door the last morning, ironically right after our neighbor left. He starts giving my husband a hard time over the fact he plugged into the neighbors hookup. So my husband explained what we did previously. How it was dark, late, we didn't want to fuss the neighbor who hooked into ours. Well this guy must of thought we were lieing or he is just naturally always rude and arrogant because he continued in the same fashion as when he gave me my warning. Then hilarious. As he is giving my husband a hard time, he is replacing the light that was supposed to be on our posted/neighbors. Like really 🤦‍♀️ So as far as my review goes cleanliness and ground 4 stars. Everyone else was super nice 5 stars, EXCEPT the rent-a-cop and most of the regulars, - 5 stars. Which is unfortunate. We are already planning our next trip to Maine but I will avoid this place because the negative interactions were just...

I've been going to Wassamki Springs since 1977. Several times last summer (2012) an extremely rude gatekeeper would say to me things like, "I'm going to shoot through your trunk to see if anyone's in it." and told people accompanying me that they were okay, but I was not (I'm a person of color); and, he even appeared to charge me a different rate than others for me to get in one day (I never got the confirmation one way or the other from The Owner). These are just a few small examples of his behavior, which took place that summer. I finally wrote a letter to The Owner. He wrote back assuring me that the gatekeepers behavior was unacceptable, and that all customers are valued. He even gave me a full summer pass to compensate for the money I had spent all last year receiving this treatment.

So a few days ago I visit the office and get my pass. I was told to settle in while they laminate my pass. When I got outside, I was accosted by The Gatekeeper. Long story short, he was overly aggressive to a point I had to ask him to stop. When he kept going, I left and walked into the office for help. I received more of the same treatment from a woman at the counter. This was of no surprise to me as the same woman couldn't even say hello to me when I initially walked into the office saying hello with a smile.

I finally tracked down the owner and reported the incident. A day or so later he sent an e-mail making claims to a video depicting me as the aggressor. Hr also said that his employees did nothing wrong (I guess I just escalated all by myself), and implied I made up the story last year. Then he added that those staff members filed reports where they claimed to be scared of me; and even ended his letter insinuating I had plans to harass his staff, threatening me with the police. Here's a clue: If someone writes a letter to The Owner saying The Gatekeeper was rude to them all last summer, and The Owner invites them back assuring it won't happen again; and, it happens again; that person is probably not going to be very happy. It seems pretty idiotic of The Owner to not understand this. To say I'm disappointed in The Owner and Wassamki Springs is an understatement.

So basically, if you want to spend $8 a person to risk running into one of those mean spirited employees (don't expect protection from The Owner, in fact they might call the police on you), you'd better have a really thick skin or not mind people being nasty rude; because, otherwise they just might ruin your...
