This is a beautiful place! The road in is well used and maintained. You are driving along in country side and all of a sudden you are in a fantastic fantasy like evergreen forests. The park is divided in two by Cape Horn Road. Day use, river access, tent, RV, 5th wheel, and camper camping is the south part of the park. Group camping and the Cabins are in the north part. A beautiful Welcome Center with adorable wood carved pillars. is the first building you come to upon entering the south side. Information, park maps, reading material, and souvenirs are a short list of the unique treasures you can take home. But the best thing you can get here is free! The Staff and Volunteers here are full of helpful information and enjoyable conversations. This is building is where you can check in. The day use area has a nice playground, many well kept trail options and bathrooms that have always been clean and well stocked. The campgrounds are clean and well maintained. The Camp Hosts were always available and extremely helpful and pleasant. On the north side of Cape Horn Road you will find 3 separate group camping sections and 5 beautiful cabins. 2 of the group camp sections are setup for tent camping with a large tent areas in the middle with the bathroom/ bathhouse buildings. Parking and a couple of RV sites are easily accessible. The other campground is setup for RVs and Camper parking. The “Cabins” title does not seem to do them justice. The open floor plan makes them feel larger than they look on the outside. Each are quaint, rustic, very well cleaned and maintained. Each has a large comfortable bathroom with a large shower. Each cabin had a fire ring and it’s own parking. The Park is on Off Season schedule and rates. If you go in the winter months, the possibility of freezing temperatures and large amounts of snow are a wonderful beautiful possibility. Prepare. See the hours and rates on their easy Web site. The park rules are posted and I suggest a refresher, takes minutes. Reservations are highly suggested, please read the cancellation Rules. Miles of trails, remote camping, river access and solitude. We had a great time here and we highly recommend a visit! We already have it in...
Read moreFirst I want to say that the Park host we had was amazing!! There were no rangers on site after he left. We found one cleaning person and that was it. The park was beautiful. The site we had was great (37). There was plenty to see and do while we were there. Bring bikes and great hiking shoes. The problems we had were after the weekend. The park host was on to his next assignment and the rangers were nowhere to be seen. This means that we could not buy firewood( something they want you to get from them and not bring in and you can't harvest yourself when there. THEY ALSO CHARGE 7 DOLLARS FOR A TINY BUNDLE), it also gave us no recourse when two needle using drug addicts came in to shoot up next to the bathrooms in their car. Or when a homeless man went into the bathroom and shaved himself and broke one of the showers because he was trying to take the coin box that operated the hot water in the shower. Which is another problem. There was no one to get coins from or machines for change to take a shower. Every other State of Washington Park we have been to has at the minimum a machine for change so we can get shower coins. The homeless man left the bathrooms a mess. We had to scare off the drug users and this caused us concern since we have 3 young children. The park needs to have a ranger on site. Period. We knocked on every door at the ranger station. This is not a park I will visit again. We left two days early and lost the money we paid for the site since they do not do refunds. Not that anyone was there to help. It is sad to see Washington State mismanage its...
Read moreCamp sites have a trail near by that leads to the river. Not too far and easily able to take cooler and other supplies. Not to far of a walk if you need to go back to grab something from your campsite. Camp sites have fire pit cooking grates that flip over and come down, adjustable hight for cooking. They do have showers 🚿 however if you want hot water you do have to pay. I didnt see a charge for higher water pressure but my bf said he had to pay for more water pressure as it was barely trickling out. It was fine for us ladies. Restrooms clean. Recommend you come with EVERYTHING YOU NEED. did not see anything close by for emergencies. Volunteers were kind and helped us with a flat. Dogs everywhere. Campsites are pretty secluded but you can definitely hear other people and they can hear you, not good if you want to be secluded. It's also very family friendly.
I know its not the campsites fault but due to the very wet spring, MOSQUITOS EVERYWHERE. I'm talking multiple species including the white and black stripped leg. (The ones in the news for zikka). I don't know if there would have been as much if we didn't have a wetter than normal spring but all the bug spray and more, suggest a netted canopy. The only times we didn't get bit was mid day and when we had a campfire. That's the only reason I would hesitate to go back. Rangers were friendly. 10 bucks a night if you have...
