We're already planning our next trip. This is our first family camping trip with our son so we were looking for something clean, quiet, near the area attractions, and in general family friendly. The staff was super helpful, pool was just cold enough after a hot day at Interstate Park, and it was less expensive than other campgrounds I've camped at. They had a few items in the store (fire wood, lighter fluid, cups, ice etc) and the upcharge was very minimal. $5.50 for firewood, when it's $5 in town, but they delivered it right to my campsite and I didn't have to drive for it. Other places I've been charge $7-8 for a bundle due to "convenience".
For all the other things we ran out of (we decided to stay an extra night) we just asked for directions to the nearest grocery store and the girls in the office gave us super easy to follow directions. The pool is great, kids liked the mini golf, and for a weekend it seemed pretty quiet to me. Not the usual "21+ crowd" which is GREAT if you have kids. The bathrooms and showers were CLEAN, I saw staff cleaning them 3 times in two days. There was security, but I'm not sure why LOL.....
Fire rings were perfect for a small fire, we had plenty of room for a tent, a canopy, a car, picnic table, our own grill, etc....it's a campground, I wasn't expecting my own acreage :)
True, the tent area is in a field like setting, but we were given the option of a shadier spot (more mosquitoes, its the WOODS people) so we picked the field and put up a canopy.
The ONLY thing I didn't like was the basketball court so close to the site path, but there were people playing all the time and I don't think me worrying about it is worth reducing a star.
Clean, quiet, nice staff, close to everything.............hoping there's open spots for a weekend coming up!
Also, I didn't see any OBVIOUSLY dangerous branches, and based on a prior review I checked. I wouldn't leave anything under trees if I knew a storm was coming, it's MN, trees fall over, branches break in storms. You go to the country for woods.....can't be mad at the owners if a storm knocks down a branch, unless you don't have insurance and want to blame someone......but then again, that's...

I’m writing to warn others of the dangers to property and life in the mature tree-covered area in the campground area behind Wildwood RV Park & Campground’s office in Shafer, MN. (Never thought it could happen to us…heck, never thought of it - period. Now we are more aware.)
We were tenting in the mature tree-covered area behind Wildwood’s office. Near midnight it stormed and 2 large oak branches fell, crushing our E-Z Up Canopy – with my husband underneath! (I was in our tent next to the canopy.) Luckily my husband heard the sound of limbs splitting and was crouching down just as the limbs fell! Also, if it wasn’t for our pickup parked beside our canopy and tent to break the fall, my husband would have been seriously hurt or worse. It took a forklift to get the limbs off our truck. There is more to this incident regarding the caretaker and owner but I’m not getting into that. We just want others to be aware of what happened to us and that it could happen to you.
The next day, after a sleepless night, we saw a number of trees that were unsafe (some had rot/decay from the base of the trunk going up a number of feet). We told the caretaker and owner our concerns of the tree conditions and potential danger to other campers, and showed them some of the trees, so they definitely know about them (though the caretaker said “I don’t look at the trees, I just cut the grass”.) I believe a property owner has a duty to inspect their property regularly in order to identify dangerous conditions and either fix them or post warnings.
Hopefully, the owners will take care of the bad trees as soon as possible before a similar incident or worse happens. Limbs and trees can fall at any time, not just...
Read moreSAVE YOUR MONEY!!! This place was a dump. MOST of the seasonal sites looked like a Camper/RV grave yard. They where so old and not taken care of. There where campers that had tarps on the roof, and a bunch of other campers molding on the sides and roofs. Sites where not kept up. The wooded area where you come in was one big mud pit, where everyone was packed in like sardines. Barny Fife riding around in his gulf cart didn't do a single blessed thing. People where without their parking passes everywhere, and was noisy all night long. The Pool is small. Was it Heated? Not while we where there. Plus there where people drinking out of glass bottles in the pool area. Great time until someone dropped one of their beer bottles and it broke all over the place in the pool area. We left when that happened. Also bring your waders, because if it rains you will be camping in ankle deep water. NO drainage what so ever. The Tent field looked like it was WeFest where all the tents where right next to each other no trees, just one big open field and tents. No privacy at all. The Mini golf course was tore up in a lot of places. It looks like they spent a lot of money on the Main Office, but they should have spent that money on upgrading the campground sites instead. Oh ya who puts a basketball court right next to the road? Almost saw a couple of kids get hit by a car because they where...
